Hi all!

Last week I bought a ring on the internet. It is a 10k gold ring, for men.
It has a 10k mark with BB&B (Bailey Banks & Biddle). Also with the inscription 'COURAGE' and '1940'. And some personal initials.

Can someone tell me more about the use of this ring? The type of stone?
I mean, was it from a soldier or just regular men? Im also curious if someone knows the value of this ring.

Bless you all!

Hi,

I found it on a ebay-like website. I think the stone is Amethist or something synthetic.

It might be ‘Rose de France’ which was popular in olden days, a pale version of Amethyst. The 10k gold content suggest a men’s ring as 10k would be quite durable and marketed as strong and enduring, and the inscription suggests it may have been given as a gift to someone prior to departure to war, either from a parent to a soldiering child, or something equally sentimental. The floral note is particularly beautiful on the sides. It is a morning glory, do you think? Or perhaps an Angel’s Trumpet? Could it have been given as a result of losing a loved one in the early days of the war? Or as a reminder of survival?

BB&B is an American company, I believe, and the US didn’t enter the war until well after 1940. That engraving might be for something utterly unrelated, as well.

Anyway it is lovely. Great find!

Thank you all. I love the ring also, but its kinda small.

Perhaps I sent photos to BB&B. Ofcourse its an 80 year old ring, but perhaps they have history archives and could show me for what purpose this ring was made of. Small change, but hey..I take every change I can get :)
