Another stone identification post

Ok. I was busy shopping this weekend. Estate. I bought this ring Bc of the setting. Assuming that for the price, the stone was glass. Turns out it has inclusions. It has bright fluorescence under UV lighting. It’s goegeous. It glows. What can it be? In The first pic it is surrounded by all my ruby rings. Pictured under various lighting conditions.

From the colour you might consider it being spinel or ruby.
However I can tell you that differentiating between natural and man made rubies can be really difficult.
Sure they create rubies that look “fake” at 10 feet but because rubies are so desirable and valuable, huge amounts of time and effort have been put into processes that make man made rubies as close to natural as possible. These days they even create man made rubies with inclusions that look just like natural ones. They also take very poor quality natural rubies and highly treat them (glass filling) and they also look (without high magnification) like lovely natural rubies.
Even with a microscope, Chelsea filter, dichoscope, UV lighting and doing Specific gravity testing, I still can’t be sure one way or the other with mine.
So basically it is often necessary to send the gem to a proper lab like AGL and get a report done.

I think potentially spinel? Or maybe some kind of garnet? Hard to tell, but those are my initial guesses. I echo @Bron357 that it's really hard to tell between natural vs. synthetic, especially now that they add inclusions. But the setting and stone color are gorgeous!

Update. My expert jeweler Is on vacay. So I took it by 2 estate jewelers who buy and sell. One said it was a synthetic ruby or spinel. Didn’t even loupe it And the other said it was a synthetic maybe ruby but not spinel. Told me to send it to lab to know for sure. Since I didn’t pay for appraisal, I will have to live with the doubt. Lol

I'm not an expert on this at all. But, I do have a synthetic Ruby from an antique ring, and it does not dim out in shadow. Like, it's always the same bright bright pink red even if I cup my hands over it. It looks like it has inclusions under 60x magnification, but they are air bubbles I think. As well, the growth lines are apparent at 60x.

It really is a cool ring. Great find! I have a synthetic ruby in an estate ring. I'll have to look at it under a black light and check for inclusions. I'll let you know what I see.

Checked mine and bright flourescence plus inclusions. It for sure is a synthetic.
