I saw the other post about addressing envelopes, and thought I would ask my question that''s slightly different.

We are using less formal invitations and only have one envelope. Therefore, all names will need to be on the "outer" envelope. How would you suggest including children''s names or implying that the person being invited may bring a guest?

I broke from tradition a little on this b/c honestly, in our case, it only applied to two invitations both of which were to families on my side who aren''t sticklers for etiquette.

I just used "The XXX Family" instead of listing out everyone''s names on the outer envelope (this was for the Save the Dates and I''ll be doing the same for the invites b/c I think inner envelopes are kind of a waste.)

As to the guest question, b/c we''re having a smaller wedding, we''re pretty close to all of the people who are invited and we also chose to only include spouses, fiances or domestic partners (with just a couple exceptions for family members who have been in long term but not co-habitating relationships). In those cases, I found out the guest''s name if I didn''t already know it and used that.

In the UK we don''t have outer envelopes.

Either address the envelope to the woman of the house - ie Mrs John Smith (formal) Mr and Mrs John Smith & family (informal).

If you are sending the children individual invitations, then each should have a separate envelope.

Thanks for the help!
Newbie- I hadn''t even thought about just including the guests names. I think in almost all of the cases where we are allowing our guests to bring someone, I know who that someone will be. Maybe I''ll just put their name on the envelope too.

Pandora- Good to know... I was worried some people might think it was tacky, but I guess it''s only a US tradition. How do you handle the "and guest" situation?
