Hi- I am new to gem collecting. My question is this: How do you know what stones are good investments and how do you turn them around. For instance I see Tanzanite and Andensine/Labradorite selling for low prices and yet they are supose to be worth 3 to 5 times and a good investment is this true?

Thanks

It must be the TV show host talking that the gems are worth 3 to 5 times. It might be semi-true if you want to buy them in the maul. However, gems are not investment for consumers who are not connected with the trade. When you want to sell it, the dealers wouldn''t take them for 30% or more below wholesale. You can hold them until they appreciate but it is going to take a long time before you can recover the loss of buying retail and selling below wholesale. People should buy gems for their rarity and beauty. For fine quality gems, they do hold their value much better but it is still a long shot of making any money.
