Hey All,

I found this site a few days ago and have been addicted. I have a learned a lot but I have a lot more to learn. Next on the list is learning how to understand ASET images. I intend on buying an e-ring for my future fiance in the next few months (don't have the proposal figured out yet). I did find the wedding hall (I am going to book it cancellable for summer 2014 - is gorgeous :)

I am so excited I just wanted to sort of just spit out where I am at and get everyone thoughts.

We haven't really discussed what she wants but yet... but she has joked about wanting "bling".

Here is where I am at:

Diamond
Shape - She is thinking princess or cushion. I am a little nervous about the way princess/fancy "cuts" are not graded as consistently as Rounds and would consider round as well (dependant on setting)
Cut - Signiture Ideal/Excellent
Size - 1.5-1.8
Color - I though I need Fish but in the past few days I have learned something like an I would probably be fine (so I am able to move up in size)
Clarity - Something eye clean
Budget - 9-12K

Setting
I am not to sure on this. I saw a Ritani Endless Love which really showcased the diamond (I love that you could see the bottom of the diamond). FF may want a Halo (although I think she is just likes them cause she things it looks more "bling" with a 1.5+ rock she will be fine with or without halo). I don't like a lot of halos (i personally feel they can take away from the center diamond and look a little over the top based on my location and social circle) although I saw a stunning princess halo ritani endless love on this site. WOW. I definitely think she would want something dainty as it looks elegant and makes the rock pop.

It sounds like it is tough to get a Ritani and they are expensive so I am certainly open to other options. I do know that she would like the setting to have diamonds on the band (is that called pave?).

What are you thoughts on the diamond/budget and what about the setting?

i have never seen a ritani cushion but my ring is ritani and i think its really high quality.
I is fine for a cushion if its a vintage cut, but for a princess id probably stay H or above. They hold more color as well as cushions that have very "crushed ice look to them.

I had recommended this stone to someone else and they didnt seem to want to reserve it, so I would really would recommend putting a hold in this, its just inder 1.5 so it doesnt hold a premium like a 1.5 would, but its not a noticeable difference (especially in a bezeled halo!!) and I dont think youll find a better princess in your busget. i would ask them to reserve it asap

Also they sell ritani there, so they should be able to get you a princess one in that setting you like
http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamond-settings/ritani-endless-love-diamond-engagement-ring-2038.htm

and with the stone being under 10k that really helps the budget. If WF wont set the ritani you can have a local jeweler send it there to be set yourself. :)

I'M sorry!!! Just noticed this is for a princess! Wow! Didn't get much sleep last night! :nono: ok. new search.

Welcome and congrats that you are getting ready to work on an engagement! This forum is fantastic and should be able to give you lots of help.

Others will probably chime in to give you great advice on stones, but I just wanted to offer some thoughts on settings briefly. If you are going to halo, I would recommend a cushion over a princess. 9 times out of 10, I think a halo makes a princess cut look awkward instead of emphasizing it.

Here are some pretty cushion halo settings to consider:

(I'm sure they could do this with a cushion instead of a round)

(depending on your budget for the setting)

(also blingy but cheaper than the BGD one)

Good luck with your search!

Wow, look at all the replies already :)

What do you all think about halos? The more I look at them the less I like them. I'll get a better feel from the FF but I am leaning towards avoiding the Halo.

I do like the simplicity of the setting you mentioned at whiteflash and I think the fact that the bottom of the diamond can be seen is so cools (that's what drew me to the ratani endless love)

2.01 for 11.5K wow. How can I tell if it's eye clean? I can see the imperfections in the GIA report but?

Also do you feel I is too much color? Should I shoot for something more colorless?

I wouldn't recommend a halo for a few reasons. The diamond out the bottom is neat but you rarely see it. I have that setting so I know it's not a HUGE design factor. Also the larger the stone the less I think a halo helps. I like them for about 1ct or less best. And if neither of you are clamoring for a halo than I say doubt do it. A nice 1.5 ct plus stands out all its own.

Also I agree with the pp princess halo often seems too pointing imho

I think that I aca is nice but for the minimal size difference I really wouldn't concede color. Especially since I really think you'll see some color in a princess I. But an ACA princess is good because you were concerned about how fancies aren't like rounds in terms of grading. Whitewash does a lot of vetting to let a stone into there ACA category.

What's the final budget? I really think depending on the budget a great hanforged setting would be fabulous

This in all diamonds?

Eta what a weird link I posted first : lol:

That was easy :)

Halo is out... :)

This is the specific setting that caught my eye (in non-halo) but I haven't looked at a ton of settings.

My total budget will be in the 12-16k range. I'd say 13ish but if I come across something that provides a lot more value for a couple grand more I'd be tempted.

I was wondering what that link was :)

I (we) prefer a micropave solitare. I can say NON-HALO now :D

I really say put that whiteflash h on hold. You aren't under any obligation to buy it but that means no one will snatch it if you still want to look around for a day ( though I really think that's a fabulous choice!)

What was the setting you liked. With a 9.5k diamond and a budget like that really your options are wide open

Please ignore my typos I am on a tablet

Ok, will do. I didn't see a link to put on hold. I will double check in a few. Am I crazy to want to shoot for larger?

You have to do the online chat and ask them to. I don't think there is a link. And no you can search for larger definitely. But I just think you wanna stay h or above when you search. And I haven't done a JA search for one in your range yet but I suspect the larger ones in your Princetont are in the I range, based off the search results returned by one of the previous posts. But that aset image for that stone is perfect

Cool, glad you are narrowing down your thoughts. Is this essentially the Ritani ring you are thinking of?

http://www.ritani.com/engagement-rings/diamond-micropave-band-engagement-ring-in-18kt-white-gold/4516

It is definitely gorgeous, although I would shop around on what different stores quote for that ring. You can get that kind of setting for much less than $3300 for WG, especially if you are willing to consider having another jeweler make it. A very similar setting from Whiteflash would cost maybe $1500.

Oh, I take it back, Whiteflash also has a similar Ritani for $1600:

I agree - it is a wow! You'd have to ask their on staff gemologist. They'll be able to tell you if it's eye clean. For a princess, I color would be the lowest I'd go. If you go with less color, you'll have to sacrifice weight.

Here's a beautiful one!

I like them for colored stones but on diamonds I just like them if they're on pears or if they're a different shape than the stone - like a cushion halo for a round stone. Otherwise, at this point I feel they are SO trendy that when they go out of style they will do so with a vengeance, so unless you're both totally in love with the halo, I wouldn't do it.

You can definitely get bling without a halo - my ring is a three-stone and then it has pave, and it's extra super blingy.
