And out of nowhere - a halo

Those who have been following my posts know that my ERD SS-inspired setting was close but not there yet. Well Chris kindly connected me to the design team via phone, and the designer mentioned to get the rounded shank that I wanted, the bezel was needed so the shank could attach higher up. Now I don't love bezels for myself, but halos are nice, so the best solution was to do a halo. I asked them to do a cushiony halo like this one...and I like how the bezel diamonds on either side of the halo are diamond shaped.

I'll also ask them to mail me the wax when the next CAD is done.

Can I just say that Chris has been awesome!! He wants to be absolutely sure that I'm happy with the outcome. And that we wouldn't rush it til I was good with the design. That just made absolutely comfortable and erased any worries. They have been absolutely fantastic to work with.

Anyway, that's my update!

This photo is a 2.5ish stone so mine won't be as big. I think I'm going to love it with the halo....msop04 has one of my favourite cushiony halos. I find the brightcut and millgrain makes the halo more chunky...do you think it's absolutely necessary I do it on the halo since it's on the shank, or can I go without it on the halo and do a standard u cut pave on the halo?

Yes, I think the halo needs the milgrain to go along with the shank. I love that design. It is basically the same ring I posted in an earlier thread but with a round halo. I would personally keep the shank like you had it, though. I thought they pretty much had that design nailed. I do not like this shank quite as much as the other. Here's the shank of the one with the round halo just for comparison. The size of the center stone is closer to yours. You just have to imagine the cushion halo.

I'm glad you are adding the halo!! I think the design will look better with it. It seems to flow more.

Well, after looking at other pics, that more square bezel on the sides looks fine with the cushion halo.

I am excited that you are going with a halo! To be honest, I prefer this setting with a bezel, but you said you didn't care for bezels, and a halo second. I know that in your design, you weren't going for either of these choices, but IMO, this is an improvement! Can't wait to see it! I can't comment on the milgrain because I would be torn. I love milgrain, but I love clean lines, too, which is why I lean towards the bezel in this style.

I don't like the look of u cut pave halos with bright cut shanks when the melee is the same/similar size. The halos always look unfinished in comparison.
However I do like the contrast when the melee are larger in the halo like a cluster sometimes.

I've certifiably gone mad. DH saw the cads and said the shank looks perfect, and don't need to round the shank. We both prefer a solitaire look so are going with that. I asked them to mail me the wax. I need to stop obsessing and just relax!!

Sorry I missed this last post! I totally understand the confusion! When there are many good choices, it is very hard to decide! That is why my AVR is still in a plain solitaire setting!

I love your vatche setting so much now that I don't think any other would so that gorge AVR justice! What happened with the Van Craeynest one? Any others on your short list? I'm dying for your future reset thread.

Apologies to everyone responding to this thread. It felt a bit like...Adam and I are no longer together. No wait...we just made up. Lol.

Aww, thanks! At least I can wear the diamond and certainly it looks fine in this setting. I still love the Van C setting, but I am not sure about the head. I have been told that my diamond will sit high, but I don't know what that means. If it is as high as it is now (which I consider medium height), that would be fine, but I don't want it really high! Those settings were designed back when most people were buying small diamonds, so I think that is why a larger stone will sit higher..they just have greater depth. I also am not sure about going back to 4 prongs. I feel like more prongs protects the diamond more. But I haven't found a ring I like better. It is the uncertainty of having to spend a large sum of money and not be 100% sure I will be happy with the outcome that makes me hesitate. I am sure everyone doing custom feels a little bit that way!

I am going to hopefully be able to see some SS rings in person when I go to Charleston in early May, so that will help me rule those in or out. But what I have is fine, and I am not going to reset unless I fall in love with something. Settings are too expensive to keep changing them! Thanks for asking!

Can I get some honest opinions? I swear I'm not trying to be indecisive...I'm usually so decisive even to a fault. That's why this upgrade process has made me a little crazy. Do you think doing a round halo will be better than doing the split eagle's prongs? I was all set to do the solitaire look, but in looking at the original setting I notice that having the brighcut pave and milgrain around the centre round stone just does something...it makes it look more vintage and more finished.

So tell me honestly please...I won't be offended. Do you think I should stick with the split eagle's prongs or do a round halo? FYI I don't prefer Diamondseeker's halo above with the milgrain bezel around the round diamond, but the one below with no bezel.

I prefer the pronged halo. Bit I like the cushion version best.
