hello everyone,
Recently me and DH picked up a 2.3ct rb diamond from a local jeweller. It looked beautiful at first glance, its IF and excellent cut I color. At that time I didnt know much about diamonds except for clarity and color, cuts i thought if it says excellent then boom its awesome.
Obviously after we paid our bucks I as a woman started to research more and more about the diamond and saw that in HCA calculator it shows more than 5. I was appalled. I contacted the dealer he got mad he says he never heard of it etc etc and typically he was very very uninterested in changing it. Fast foorwarding 5 months now im reading threads here at pricescope and I feel like I need some opnions from our fellas out here and experts. :twisted2:
Let me know if i got a bang for my buck, if it looks good/bad/blue idk. I initially wanted to flaunt my crytal clear diamond and put it not on a halo setting, but maybe now i would change it into a cushion halo with a plain band. Let me know in the comments . Thank you thank you

Diamond: 2.3 ct
Price: 28000 Cad or roughly 21200 USD
Color : I
Clarity : IF (grading hrd antwerp attached below)
Cut: triple ex

Are you hoping to return the stone at this point? I’m not sure asking for comments on the stone will be helpful to you if not.

He wont exchange it and im past my exchange date as of now. Its just that i want opinions for a better understanding.

My opinion is , it is already bought and it would be unreasonably expensive to sell and buy a better cut one.
If you are looking to have it taken from the setting and recut, you might lose weight of the stone.
If you do not want it recut ( which can take a long time) enjoy your ring!

I am sure it sparkles plenty and there is no reason you cannot enjoy that beauty!

I like the setting your diamond is in now. I would not change the setting.

I happen to think your stone looks beautiful and lovely on your hand! Enjoy it and wear it well! Your other bands are beautiful, too! :)

Thank you ladies very much  but for real what abt the stone?

HRD is a very reputable lab and a loupe clean/IF stone is a treasure. Prices for GIA stones in this size/color/clarity range are comparable - sounds like you paid a fair price.

I too like the setting it’s in now, but a halo would give you quite a bit more face-up presence, if that’s something you’re looking for.

Edit - given that you’re well out of the decision-making stage of this purchase, I will ditto other posters in advising you not to potentially sabotage your enjoyment of your stone for no gain. If one day you or your partner wants to buy another stone and you decide you’d like to try a more analytic approach to that purchase - this forum isn’t going anywhere!

I don't think many experts will chime in because the diamond has been purchased and is no longer returnable. IMO, the experts here (I am not one of them LOL) could have directed you to better cut options had you come here pre-purchase or during your return period. But what good is their advice/opinion now? If you are open to a re-cut (as @tkyasx78 noted above, you will lose some weight in doing so) or upgrading to a better cut diamond, you might get more feedback.

FWIW, I think your diamond looks lovely. Are there better cuts out there? Of course. But the average person is not going to be able to tell much if any difference between your diamond and an ideal cut. And your setting and stacks look amazing. So unless you are open to a re-cut or upgrade, I say just enjoy your diamond.

Although not ideal cut, I think your diamond is beautiful, and you paid fair price for it. You can always recut it to ideal proportions. The most important is that you got perfect diamond crystal with flawless clarity and good color.

If it is a fair price then I guess its okay. We were in a budget and better cuts would have been much more expensive. This is a gift from DH for our 5 year anniversary . Added a rosegold cartier band later to dress it up a little bit. After looking at the HcA results i felt maybe it doesn’t sparkle AS MUCH as i would want it to, but believe me it does sparkle. I guess its one of those crazy nit picky lady things in my head to make it look perfect.

Ps: how much does a re-cut cost... like a ballpark? I had no clue this can even be done .

I paid $350 per carat for re-cut. Some cutters could charge even more.
Your stone is 2.3ct x $350 = $805 plus shipping.
However, think wisely if this is necessary. Your diamond will decrease in size.

You could ask Brian Gavin Diamonds or Whiteflash or Crafted by Infinity for a quotation for a recut, and the likely carat weight of the end product if you went ahead.

My personal feeling is that it might need to lose quite a lot of weight to get to nearer 'super ideal' angles, so it may not be an option, but it could be worth asking the question so you can either rule it out or investigate further :)
