I have loved quilts for most of my life. When my daughter was born, I bought some heavily quilted handmade crib quits to hang in her bedroom. I have given hand quilted crib quilts made by Amish women to family members; the children of my godson; and to the babies of dear friends as baby gifts.

Not long ago, Monnie put up a wonderful thread with exquisite museum quality quilt by women here in Hangout. Many had political themes. When I saw this article today I wanted to share it, too. The quilts are not as sophisticated as the ones in the exhibit Monnie posted, but the story surrounding their creation is truly wonderful and American. I hope some of you enjoy it as much as I did.

Excellent piece, Deb! Thank you for posting it. I liked seeing one of the women using scraps of ruled notebook paper on top of a paper towel to design a template for a block. And the closing statement of the woman with the purple headwrap that we're only borrowing everything here on this planet for a little while was beautiful.
