amber with lizard inside !

Hi,
i want to post pictures of Big Amber (66.1 ct) which i have, it has lizard inside, the age of the stone is about 30 000 000 years! its totally natural and certified

I think that is so cool and probably pretty unusual. I know the ones w/ bigs go for a lot and I''ve neve seen ne with a lizard before.

you can add it to jewlery if you want, but at the moment i am just keep it like this.

i was thinking to put it on head of stick covered by gold net and to put some agates in the stick also

also a lady offered for me to put it for her on pendant but the price she offered was much less than it worth

That is interesting. I was talking to a dealer about Amber the other day. We said that at a show someone had offered homa sweet deal on apeice of Amber that had a frog inside. He saw the "sellers" certification for it and everything. But they found out it was a scam and that it was not real amber. He said that real amber with an "animal" inside would be worth a fortune. Did you get a good deal?

abuopal - knowing nothing about critters in amber or amber itself, I wonder if you could tell us/show us the certification you have. I am struck by the rare nature of "lizards"(geko/anolis) in amber of which there are only about a dozen known. If this is indeed authentic, then you probably have one of the top 4-5 samples on the world, could be easily valued at well over $50k, and are to be congratulated!

Keeping in mind that it is impossible to judge authenticity from a couple of photos, three features of your example strike me as "odd" compared to pictures of known authentic specimens - 1. the amber is extremely clean and contains almost no other debris, bugs, etc. - 2. the preservation of the "lizard" looks perfect or near perfect; in other words it is complete, without any loss or deterioration of the legs, tail, head, etc. - 3. the arrangement of the body, in a "classic" head-to-tail configuation, appears somewhat over-optimal.

Rest assured that I''m not trying to be antagonistic, but merely inquisitive.

It is probably worth a lot of money but I get freaked out when I see a lizard, dead or alive.

The usual test is that amber floats in distilled water saturated with dissolved sodium chloride, and most plastic imitations sink -- however in this case with such a large "inclusion" which is probably of a significantly higher density than amber, the test would be invalid.

I'm afraid I agree with some of the posters who respectfully question the "certificate" -- unless it is from a well known source EGL, AGTA, GIA, etc. it is to be suspected. There are many so-called gem labs (often in the back room of the seller) that will write whatever they are asked to write on the paper.

If you really want to know its authenticity, then a cert from one of those big labs is the way to go. There is a huge trade in "amber" (usually amberoid or just plastic) with near impossible inclusions like whole bird feathers, uncrushed flowers, tarantula sized spiders, etc. There is also a much smaller legitimate trade in copal and amber with natural inclusions. Hi,
sorry for being late because i have problems to add the picture of the certificate and other pics of the stone, however the certificate i had its not from a well know lab but what iam sure of it is that the stone is natural cause we do alot of tests to confirm that.

first of all the stone will sink because of that large inclusion it had

but when i warm the stone by sand paper(scratch from the back side of the stone) it gives a very pleasent smell which is the amber smell and this was confirmed by the head of the jewels in my city. and i really took it to different jewels shops and they have experinced people from GIA and they told the stone is natural.

by the way i am looking forward to do a certificate from a well known lab because this well increase the price of the stone and the people will be much confident about the stone.

please if you know any good and well known lab to give me certificate please help me and tell me.
