If it is EGL foreign, I have found out that you are probably not getting an E VS1.

Even EGL-USA appears shaky to me.

You will find great deals with EGL.. unfortunately, you may not be getting what you are paying for.

I have abandoned EGL stones in my searches. I am only looking at GIA now.

I would never NOT consider EGL graded stones, but I would compare the price to GIA graded stones in the color/carity 1-2 grades below. Are you still getting a good price then? There's always a chance that you're getting a great deal because the stone WAS graded accurately, but you want to make sure you get it independently appraised before purchasing. I've found that EGL-USA certs from L.A. in the past year or two are much more accurate than in the past.

Have you gone to www.gemappraisers.com to see how your stone scores on the AGA charts?

I thinks it's risky if you can't judge a diamond by yourself. I'm sure a lot of people here can judge a diamond well. But, personally my eyes are not suited for being a jeweler. I have trouble with things that are not obvious, and I'm new to the whole diamond grading thing.

I don't believe it's a good idea to buy something so expesnive if you really can't tell whether you are getting what you are paying for .. or not.

I think the reliability of a GIA certification makes a lot of sense, especially to a novice... Otherwise it sounds liek a gamble to me.

I'm sure it would be different if I could pick up a stone, grade it in color and clarity and know what it is. Then it wouldn't be a bad idea to buy uncertified stones...

I don't think it would be smart for people to take gambles when they don't really know what they are doing.

Of course, this is just my opinion...
