Am I buying the right tacori setting? Or taken advantage of?

Hi everyone,

So I've found a 1.34 carat RB stone after months of searching, and now am finalizing the purchase of the setting I want to surprise my gf with for the e-ring. I'm going with the tacori 2584 Setting.

http://www.tacori.com/2584rd65.html

Now, I only have one authorized tacori nearby, and when I went to talk about it, they said I would have to upgrade from the tacori 2584rd65 to 2584rd7 (6.5mm to 7mm setting change). The price jumps about $400 from one to the next, and I'm not sure if it's necessary. According to whiteflash, the 6.5 width can accommodate my stone, but my local tacori dealer claims that it would be much better suited for the 7mm setting. He says that he can set the stone in a better position with the wider setting, and it would be more secure.

Basically, I'm wondering if there is truth behind what he's saying? Or if he's trying to upsell me?

Something definitely sounds fishy to me here. The link you posted said that the setting can accommodate a round diamond of different sizes, starting at .75 cts. You should get what you want. I would tell him that you'll just get the tacori setting online then if he won't sell it to you.

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure it has to do with the size of the stone in millimeters. What are the exact dimensions?

7.18 X 7.2 X 4.26mm

Based on its dimensions, your stone should be set in the Tacori 7mm version.

Did you speak with a WF representative re: the Tacori or are you just going off their website listing for that ring? It does list a carat range of 0.75ct-1.75ct, but it is very unlikely the same Tacori mount would accommodate the entire carat range.

I think your jeweler is giving you correct information. And, since it sounds like he is going to set the stone himself - you have confirmed he is an authorized Tacori dealer? The Tacori warranty requires only Tacori or its authorized Tacori dealers set stones in their rings - otherwise the warranty is void.

Thanks for the info!

You're right, it should be the 7mm version, I have confirmed with another couple vendors as well.
And yes I definitely confirmed that he is an authorized tacori retailer and it will still be covered under warranty. Thanks for the heads up!
