Do you think it is reasonable to be able to purchase the center stone, platinum setting (including 2 pear sidestones), and plain platinum wedding band for $5,000-$6,000? I am tentatively estimating spending around $3,000-$3,500 on the stone and $2,000-$2,500 on the setting, then purchasing the band with whatever''s left over (if any!

). Here is what I am looking for in the stone:

AGS0 Princess Cut
About .9-.95 ct
H color
SI1 clarity (eye-clean)

Also, 2 pears of similar color and clarity and about .2ish cts each.

I have to tried to compromise as much as possible on color and clarity in order to get the largest stone possible.

I am hoping to purchase my entire set from Whiteflash, though I have not contacted them yet because I don''t want to start the fabrication process for another 6 months or so. They do not have a three-stone side-pears setting on their web site that I can find, so I am considering having it custom made; I''ve read on here that doing so is pretty reasonable. I hope so!

So, do you think this is doable? If not, where would you sacrifice to fall within budget? (Btw, I was planning on platinum because I don''t plan to upgrade.)

Thanks so much for your opinions!

The stone might be hard to find with such tight parameters, but tentatively I would say yes it should be feasible. But you might need to be patient to find the right combo of stones and setting. You might need to be at the higher end of your budget though because of the stone...but then again if metal prices keep dropping your setting might be a tad bit less than you'd expect, so who knows really.

Pear side stones with a princess center? Have you seen that before? Pear sides are usually used with center stones that have rounded edges such as round, oval, pear, or cushion. I''d suggest maybe small princes sides next to a princess or a solitaire with diamonds in the band.

Yes, I have seen it, but only in pictures. My BF and I aren''t going to start hitting the B&M stores to look until after Christmas, so I hope I can find one then to see in person. I haven''t found many pics of such a setting on PS, but here is one decent one:

I know that pears are usually paired with curved shapes, but I really love the contrast of a princess with pears. I fell in love at first sight, and even though I''ve spent hours on PS making sure I don''t like anything better, I can''t find anything else with such a "WOW" factor for me. I actually like the fact that it is kind of unique. My runner-up choice would be something with a split shank, but I think I''d always regret not getting a princess with pears.

If you go with a plain platinum band, you might be able to stick to that budget. I have a 1.03 carat radiant with pear sapphire sides and sapphire and diamond w-ring, and I think my set was around $6500 total. I know that most people go with pear sides for a round stone, but I also like the contrast of the square stone with the pears. So, go with what you like.

By the way here''s a couple of diamonds for you to check out:

This is higher than your budget, but it looks like a pretty stone.

This is within your budget, but may be lower in color than you want to go.

I checked Whiteflash and they didn''t have any ACA princesses in stock with your requirements.

Thanks for the suggestions coda! I''m glad to know someone shares my love for squares with pears.

I know, I''ve been checking Whiteflash almost daily, but I suppose their inventory may be a little low since it''s a busy season. I''m glad I have a while to find one! Thanks again!
