I am searching for my perfect cushion, modern brilliant, elongated cut. I saw this one listed on pricescope, but I have not read any info here in the forums about AM-Diamonds, located in NYC.

What do you guys think about this one?

Cushion GIA
5.06
G VS2

67.7% depth
66 % table

vtn - vtk (this is questionable)
Gd/Gd
no culet
10.98 x 9.28 x 6.28

Holy carp that''s huge ! LOL I mean, it''s a little deep, but it could have potential. You''ll need to see it to determine if it''s the style cushion you''re looking for! Yum.

5.06 cts! What else matters? I am too jealous to answer!

I bet it's stunning, but cushions all look very different from one another. The key is finding one you like the look of. Can you see it in person, and compare it to others?

I think the table is a tad large, which might make for a somewhat flatter stone. Lots of people prefer this... I tend to prefer stones with smaller tables (56 to 60), to get a more pillowy look.

I'd try to see it in person. If you end up buying it, please post pics!

Also... Here's a similar stone from dirtcheap diamonds that looks great by the numbers. Maybe this one is worth considering?

5.02 cushion

Let me know if you need a baguette- you can use my e-ring! hehehehehehe

YOWZA! holy boulder, batman! (in a very, very GOOD way!) that''s gonna be awesome.

on the numbers, as MMM said, perhaps a tad deep (although my own stone is 66.5%, so hey, you can see how well i follow my own advice, lol), but at that size it''s not like losing a little spread is going to hurt much!

as others have said i''d see it in person, and if it "speaks to you", then it could be the one!

Thanks, guys. Yeah I''m looking for a little bling. Depending on how I end up setting it, I am searching for stones that start around 3.6 and up. I do have a budget in mind, but if I end up selecting a larger , more expensive center stone then, I might change my thoughts on what kind of setting I want. I have called several jewelers here on PS and it seems this elongated modern cushion is a hard little stinker to locate. I''m thinking the l to w ratio should be around 1 to 1.28 and up to about 1 to 1.4 . Those seem sooo harrd to find!

I really appreciate any input from PS''ers. A jeweler last week said anything in the 60''s for depth and table %''s would be a stone to look at. I know this is going to be hard, so any suggestions would be a help.

OMG- cushioncut...we posted the same stone...Get this...dirtcheap is almost 9 grand MORE than bluenile? I bet that BN price is not right. I''ve noticed that a lot lately. FALSE ADVERTISING. I bet if we inquired, it would turn out to be a ''mistake''...

Ann- do you want a modern cushion? Just asking b/c a stone with Gd/Gd is not a modern stone. The modern ones have at least vg/vg....just some info ...Whatever you end up with..I''m sure we''ll all turn GREEN! :)

Ann -- It's so funny that you are having a hard time finding an elongated stone. So many people on here, including me, have had a hard time finding squares. Good luck in your search -- I can't wait to see what you turn up. I LOVE huge cushions. Maybe I've been hanging around on p-scope too long, but 5 cts seems like just the perfect size to me!

MMM -- funny that we found the same stone! I think the pickings are slim in that weight -- I bet that's why. I would bet the BN price is wrong. From what I can see, dirtcheap usually has the lowest price online...

Ok, guys tell me why a modern cushion would be VG/VG ?

I love the shape of an elongated cushion, but I want the briiliance also. So, it has to be a modern cut.

What numbers should I look for?

Well, I''m SO not an expert. But it appears as though very few manu are making the modern cushion. Check out diamondtalk.com and there is a section by diamondbrokersoffl. They tell you about it. These ''''modern" cuts have elongated facets like a round and are cut with excellent symmetry. You will find that there aren''t many out there. Also, they are A LOT more expensive than more traditional cushions. For ex, my 2.13 E Vs2 was $22,000(free white gold setting) from Mark who has good prices. There are similar E Vs2 2.1+ ct stones out there for thousands less...but they are not ''modern'' stones with the same cut quality! It''s kind of like the H&A of the rounds LOL (let''s not get carried away I''m sure people will say! ) :)

Check out the #s on this stone...the depth, the table, Ex polish and Ex symmetry...look carefully at the plot on the GIA cert...
Compare it to others and notice a huge price dif! Also, niceice mentioned that bluenile has some deal with the few manu of these excellent stones, and they are the only ones who get to list them on the internet as brokers...Also, check out DanielK if you don't mind paying A LOT more than you should. They sell a lot of the EX EX modern cuts. Honestly, I would contact mark and tell him what you want. He works fast and gets stones easily.

MMM

I contacted DBofF a month or 2 ago and at that time there was nothing. I do intend to call Mark. Thanks for the help. I need a lot of it. I was looking at Radiants, then saw these gorgeous cushions and fell for the soft feminine look. My husband is hoping we can just get this ring DONE! I have been looking off and on for 3 years.

What shape of side stones would look best? Last weekend I saw elongated cushions with half moons and also with trapezoids.
Would step-cut or brilliant traps be ok? Some of the half moons were too swoopy on the sides. I like those elongated also!!!!
Oh, I am pathetic.

I was thinking about trying Mark for the stone(s), then having Leon Mege design a setting.

Just checked out BN. The exact stone at AM-Diamond was 60,500 on PS. On BN it is listed for 63,000.

These stones are really expensive compared to other shapes. Why? Demand? Or just not enough cutters?
I will drop down to a high 3ct up to a low 4ct. Still will be great-huh?

The 10-11X8-9 mm size could be anywhere from around four carats to 6 - depending on what the proportions of the stone looks like. Squares are more trendy - this is why you have a hard time finding lots of options for an elongated cut.

Is this shape allright?

This stone does not fit your specs for anything but shape (IMO), but the seller should know what the source of the cut is and perhaps provide.

I guess the main difficulty here is not the lack of stones, but the high cost of stocking 5 caraters! Not too many shops would keep lots of them (and keep money tied up) by default, but bringing in from suppliers to fulfill your order is yet another thing - much easier, I hope.

Oops! Sorrry Ann, I wasn't clear. I use BlueNile to do a search and see what's out there. they don't own the stones. And they are too expensive. I found my cushion on blue nile and told Mark about it and I got from him for much cheaper! The sameis true with just about any stone. Neither Am nor Bluenile own that stone you were lookin at! These are more expensive b/c the cut is better. Not nec more beautiful to some people..but the difference in brilliance is obviousl Just like you pay a premium for a H&A round. If you want the cadillac of cushions, you'll pay for it!

I don't know about side stones. I too had the same issue...I'm ggoing for a three stone cushion! Halfmoons are beautiful but I wanted to keep my stone looking as square as possible. Also, I wanted a match in terms of brilliance and I couldn't find that from any shape other thana round! :)

Valeria, yes that is the shape I am looking for, it could even be a little squarer and it would "pass". Was that stone from Diamonds By Lauren? That stone, to me, looks almost like an oval. The cushions I have seen did not have a bow tie, or at least it was not as noticeable as the picture of the cushion you posted.

MMM , I am going to call Mark next week. Did it take you a long time to find your stone?

I am so anxious to get this show on the road.

Valeria, was that stone from Diamonds By Lauren?
Yes.

Ann- these new well cut cushions have little to no bowties! Although the more rectangular you go, the greater the chance of having one.
It took me about 1 1/2 weeks from the time I saw the stone online to the time Mark got it for me! ANd that''s only b/c there were Jewish holidays during that time too! He is fast. But the prob is...I was only looking for a puny 2 carat LOL...A stone in your size might take a while but I hope not! :) OMG- it''s going to be awesome!

P.S. I wouldn't discount other cushions in your parameters. I'd trust Mark's eyes even though it's not a VG/EX cushion!

Sorry if I''m interrupting, but I must know..... Who is this Mark you keep referring to?

My bf and I are looking to purchase a ring around next November. We are looking at 2ct Cushions. I have been checking out Blue Nile but don''t really know much about anything else. Any suggestions?

I would also love to see pics of this size on hands, if you know of any. My ring size is 5, so i would love to get an idea of what it will look like.
