Anybody walk down the aisle with something other than a floral bouquet?

I don't theme yet (acutally haven't even picked a date/venue yet) but I'm just thinking ahead and trying to budget. I'm trying to think of ideas other than a typical floral bouquet to walk down the aisle with. One reason is to reduce cost and the second reason is to do soemthing a bit different. My other option would be to not carry a bouquet at all and walk down the aisle holding hand with my fiance.

Ideas?

In a bridal magazine (a while ago), some girl had a bouquet that was made out of her family members' broaches. It was super pretty and close to free since they were her "something borrowed" and she assembled it. If you have a family that is really into jewelry/broaches and is willing to lend them to you, this may be a good option. Good luck! :)

I made bouquets out of buttons and rhinestones!

I hadn't posted the finished pictures yet, because I was saving them for a monster DIY thread (as soon as I finish my necklace). It was very time consuming, and I had to make a whole test bouquet (that was bad!) to get the technique down, but I am so excited about how they came out!

There are lots of non-floral bouquet ideas on offbeatbride.com- I'd definitely say to check them out.

Here are my bouquets!

IrisAccents, those are so cool!!!

I have a friend who did broaches - it was really neat and sentimental.

OMG--those bouquets are gorgeous! I can't even imagine how much time went into making them. Wow.

I think I have seen some bouquets made with feathers, or berries, or other materials also

I'm going to hold my parents' arms going down the aisle, so no bouquet for me. But I had thought about doing something nontraditional before.

Here's an from A Practical Wedding that had some interesting ideas in the comments. The website has been totally revamped, so I can't find a nice-looking form of the post, but at least there's the old-style one! https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=5739514535041649577&postID=1253990269298411271

There's also this post at Offbeat Bride that has pictures of the various ideas. http://offbeatbride.com/2009/03/wedding-bouquets

Looking forward to seeing what you decide!

Oh my GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (thats how I feel right now after seeing your bouquets, seriously!) I LOVE THOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a unique idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love love love love love love love it. I rarely ever find myself falling in love with anything but this is just extra cool. I love the rhinestones!

I can't wait to see the thread you do!

I don't have pictures, but a friend carried a bouquet of paper flowers at her wedding. When you got to the reception they had displayed everything "in" her bouquet. The paper used were copies of both sets of parents marriage certificates, love letters between grandparents, etc. It was SO neat.

Romantic!!! Good one!

The bouquet made from vintage brooches can get quite expensive. For a full bouquet you need around 70 brooches. My DD showed me the bouquets, but after I investigated - whew! the price can soar if you don't have enough brooches and you have to buy them. Then there is the issue of assembling the bouquet. It's really not that hard (I found a tutorial) but is time consuming and might require a few start overs! I researched brooches and found them from $5.00 and up. Most on Etsy/Ebay were way more than that. I loved the idea of asking relatives for old family brooches or asking your bridal shower guests to contribute. But you still need time to assemble the bouquet. I loved the bouquets that were mostly pearls and rhinestones, sooo pretty. Google Amanda Heer (I think that's her name) she apparently started this awesome idea! She is also on Etsy. If anyone makes one, please post a pic here!!

Not sure if it would work religion wise for you depending on your denomination.... but Ive seen brides walk down with rosary beads which looked pretty, a single red/white rose, an antique Bible/prayer book from their mom, grandmother, etc.

from a non sentimental side....I've seen brides walk down with a pomander rather than a traditional bouquet.

I briefly considered lanterns. I found some pictures online during my search that looked cool.

WOW! (You won't hear that from me much!) I love the button bouquets and the ideas of the non-traditional bouquets as well as the paper ones...etc.! Love those! Go Etsy!

But! This is Sirbenson's thread and I would love to keep her thoughts and feelings in mind? Can we do that?

(Damn, I love you guys!)

:appl:

PS--I was also in the middle of a serious coughing fit and deny any charges of whatever you're charging me with. So there.

Let the bouquet f*ckery I'm sorry funnery carry right on!!!

What about crystal bouquets? My friend had a gorgeous bouquet of Swarovski crystals. There are many websites on line to chose from.
It would last forever and could become a family heirloom. Good luck!

Monnie, I love ya, but what the heck were you talking about here?! =) I think we were all trying to give her ideas.

Sirbenson, have you come up with any ideas yet? When is your wedding? If it's in the winter you could always carry a fur muff.

Yeah I don't get that post either. Meh.

Yes I do appreciate all the ideas; love the buttons, brooches and Swarovski crystals ideas. The only down side I could think of with them is the pieces coming to close to the dress and causing pulls in the fabric. I'll be wearing a satin dress. Still not sure on a date yet though it'll be a warm weather month, maybe June or July next year.

Okay, I'm going way back into the PS archive, but I really loved Independent Gal's feather bouqet and wanted to post it since I think it's a great non-traditional bouquet. She had feather boutonnieres as well!

LOVE the feather bouqet! Thanks for posting the pic as inspiration.

I'm not religious, but carried the prayer book that my mom and grandmother both carried at their weddings. It had daisies and ribbons cascading down it and was really quite pretty.

I LOVE the idea of the paper bouquet, and the broach bouquet as well. And those button bouquet's that were posted above are exquisite!

That sounds really lovely gf - have you posted any pics on PS? I tried searching but the new search function won't cooperate!

Not helpful for you with a summer wedding. Mine was a winter one, and I carried a fur muff.

Sure Yssie! These are the only two I could dig up....still waiting to see the majority of our pro photos.
