Hi, everyone. I''d like to make a selection within a week or so, and I''d be interested in knowing your opinions on the following diamonds. Originally, I was in the just-under-a-carat range and found this diamond.

90 points, g, vs2, $4100

I think this is competitively priced (please yell at me if it isn''t!), but I''m wondering if I can save a little by dropping the weight by a few points and/or dropping from vs2 to si1. It seems I can save hundreds, and I don''t think I''d be sacrificing all that much.

I found this one as one alternative. I don''t see the faint fluorescence as a problem, but the girdle information is not available. Could the difference in size cause this to be so much cheaper than the one above?
86-points, faint fluor, no girdle info $3100

Another alternative...drop from vs2 to si1 and the price goes down by $500. But, I know that not all si1''s are created equal.
90-points, si1

I''m sure I could play with other combinations, but I noticed that there aren''t many diamonds available in the 0.84-0.90 range.

Any advice?

Thanks a lot,
A2BE

Dear AB2E

These stones aren''t really comparable. Diamonds which have difference that are "large" are priced that way for a reason. It the second stone sells for $ 1000.00 less. Granted the actual difference between the stones may be acceptable to you, and if it is and budget is your major concern, then get the lesser expensive one.

Learn as much as you can about diamonds.. then learn about the differences in the stones your have selected. The more you know the easier your decision will become.

Hope this helps.

So there''s more to the [much] lower prices than the drop in size/clarity? If so, maybe I should stick with the "known" quantity even though it''s more expensive.

You are getting good at this Ira
