Wheew, after a looong search, I have narrowed down my choices to just three!! Yeah, that''s after weeks of research on the internet and going to stores. So I need some help in the final decision, please help me to choose 1... atually, can you rank your preference??? much thanks!!!

(I know... prices differ by $1k, but I can skip lunch for 1yr...)

Choice A - 0.91ct, H, VS1, AGS, No Fluor, ID/ID
D = 61.6%, T = 57%, Crown = 34.5 degree, Pavil = 40.8 degree,
culet = 0.7%, Girdle = 1.8%, HCA 1.4

Choice B - 0.76ct, D, VS2, GIA, Faint Flour, Ex/Ex
D = 61.3%, T = 56%, Crown = 34.5 degree, Pavil = 40.8 degree,
culet = 0.8%, Girdle = 1.6%, HCA 1.2

Choice C - 0.73ct, E, VS1, GIA, No Flour, Ex/Ex
D = 61.1%, T = 56%, Crown = 34.5 degree, Pavil = 40.8 degree,
culet = 0.8%, girdle = 1.6%, HCA 1.2

Please don''t say they are all great, or all sucky... then I am back to square 1... I need ranking, please.... Thanks!!!

Shave,
If they are from the same vendor, ask them to pull the stones and look them over while you are on the phone.

With the info provided, I'd choose:
A
C
B
I think this order gives the best value for your $ based on color. The other specs don't differentiate the stones (all eye-clean and great cuts).

Providing they all perform as the numbers suggest they should, I'd pick A......all day long.

The other two are a coin-flip.

Definitely A.

"A" scores 1.4 on HCA, whereas the others score 1.2. Is that a decision factor at all? I know above 2 is the top 5%... but is the smaller numbe still better?

NO.

there are more detailed answers to this here and there on PS, that's just the summary

How well do you notice color. How does the prospective diamond wearer notice color? If you can't tell the difference, or don't mind the difference, by all means go with the bigger stone. A-C-B

If you are a color freak, C-B-A.

That's how I would pick it... But C-B are probably very close in price and probably look very very similar. It probably wouldn't matter much.

No, smaller isn't better. The HCA isn't a quantitative system.

0.5 isn't better than 1.5....just like vanilla isn't better (or worse) than chocolate.

Is it possible to get minor facet measurements? When I have 3 stones with identical or similar basic Sarin measurements I personally start looking at other factors relating to the optical properties of the diamond but if you don't have access to such information, if you can get minor facet measurements then further seperations can be made. Take these 2 diamonds for example. Both of these have identical basic Sarin data ... both have 34.5 crown angles, 40.8 pavilion angles and 56% tables. The primary differences between the 2 lie in minor facet cutting (and also assuming excellent optical symmetry which is still an unknown in your stones). Each of these 2 particular stones will give a different display of fire & scintillation.

The further information that would be needed to assess where any of your potential stones will fall is ...

  1. lower girdle length (or depth)
  2. star facet length
  3. upper girdle angles
  4. What would also help is to learn what the variances are (minimums & maximums for crown angles, pavilion angles and table) for precision.

Otherwise ... I'm with the others regarding choice A.

Who are you kidding, chocolate is way better.

B

C

A

Because I'm a total color snob, I like fluor, and because size is least important to me. But, if you like size, then go with A!

if i was choosing for myself i would pick - c, b, a
please keep in mind i know nothing about how to pick out a stone according to all the specs i'm still learning from what i read here

My choices

A
C
B

Well, everyone here knows I'm a size freak, so no surprise for my answer:

I'd go with A and I'll tell you why -- most ladies (I know not ALL, but I feel comfortable with the word "most"!) would prefer a one carat (and I use the term "one" loosely as anything from .90 to one-point-something is a one carat in my book).

The other two are definite "three-quarters" which does looks definitively smaller than a one carat.
