We are looking at two rings on the net. Both have an AGSL cut rating of Ideal 0. Color, clarity are both the same 0 (D), and 0 (IF) respectively. Flourescence is "negligible" on both and the price is practically the same except for a slight difference in carat weight. We are questioning the range of quality of cut within the AGSL definition of Ideal 0. Is there going to be a significant or noticeable difference in these rings?

Theoretically, there are still very many different ways that this diamond can look. One can have H&A, while the other does not. One could have a 50% table, while the other has a 60% table. To start, within the AGS-0 cut-grade, a lot of different looks are possible.

Even if we take it further, there are a number of super-ideal brands, that I think all would get an AGS-0 grade, but we have consumers, who are able to express a preference based upon the look of each brand.

We could take it even further, because even within the same brand, consumers seem to be able to express preferences based upon angle-combinations, idealscopes and so on.

Live long,

We have digital equipment which can discriminate several levels of performance in even the single AGS 0 grade. I don''t say everyone would want the highest performing stone within AGS 0 because people have differing personal taste of what is beautiful. However, for those who want technical measurement, we are well prepared to give repeatable, firm, direct measures for round, princess and marquise cut diamonds.

Classifications, such as AGS 0, can be broken down into further subcategories. If it matters to you, we can do it. If the AGS 0 category is suficient assurance, then finer discrimination may seem needless.

What folks don''t realize is the probablity that many AGS 1 or AGS 2 diamonds outperform some AGS 0 stones. We see so few diamonds below AGS 0 that we just presently assume this will be the case. In time, we''ll find out if our suspicions are correct.
