On the subject of the HCA tool, is it still regarded a good thing for a stone to score on the very-far-left perimeter of the AGS0 boxed outline? I am pursuing a stone that scores an HCA .6 (EX/EX/EX/EX). Even though it’s EX in all categories, should there be cause for concern because it’s at the outer limits of what’s considered an AGS0 cut?

AGS new cut grade system we expect to be released next year will probably give diamonds right over to 30 degrees the top AGS zero rating.

GIA too have been pushing 25 degree crown angle diamonds to the trade that people have been amazed - they have selected them as the best in groups in the survey they have been conducting. So do not worry about 33.8

Well then, sounds sweet! Actually, the stone's crown angle is 33.7 degrees - probably splitting hairs - so it still sounds good to me! Thanks.

what about pavil angle what's the argument there ?

AGS will not go as shallow as I would.

I assume a diamond will look good when viewed 14 inches from your head. At the Cut Conference Peter Yantzer (lab director) explained they will grade to 10 inches (very close up) because any diamond that passes that test will also look good at a distance.

This is a matter of opinion; I disagree, but it is only my opinion. I agree though that below 25 year olds can see very well at 10 inches - but few people spend much time looking at that distance. Peter agreed that even shallower stones than my preference would work well as pendant diamonds

( BTW There is no difference between pavilion angle ranges and crown angle ranges - one is dependent on the other)
