I have heard that AGS is often 1 grade stricter on clarity than GIA. Is this true? If so, is it likely that a VS2 by AGS standards will score a VS1 by GIA. What about color?

Thanks!

I hope this is true since my last purchase was an AGS VS1.

It seems to me that this does not happen very often.

I saw that Leonid had typed this and meant to ask him about it.

Working on it... Please be patient for a few days. Let's also try to avoid any speculations.

I remember a post one time in which a vendor or appraiser (can't remember which) said that AGS was stricter on clarity but GIA was stricter on color.

That sounds likely to me.

As far as my current experience goes with both institutions, AGS is definitely stricter on colour, while I see little difference in the clarity-grading.

This small difference in colour is a minor difference, and will only be noticed on borderline-stones. Nothing to worry about.

Both are reputable labs, and the small difference should not be exaggerated.

Live long,

Hey Garry!

I think about you every time my kids watch Finding Nemo. I picture you as the Dentist character except with a loupe rather than a drill.

Got any relatives named Darla?? >
