Does anyone know if the proportions given in the AGA cut chart for "emerald" can be applied to the modified square emerald (a.k.a generic Asscher)?

The Asscher is a "special" cut that is generally overly deep, but impressive in appearance. It proves the point others are attempting to make that a diamond may be very pretty even when not cut to its best proportions. I can agree that ios the case, but Asscher cuts tend to look a lot less large than what their weight would indicate. They are heavy on their backside..... A few I have seen are better proportioned, but the majority are deepish.

Can't say I don't like them because I do....It would be pointless to make an AGA Cut Class chart for Asscher cut only to have nearly all of them grade 3 or lower when no one cuts 1's or 2's and those theoretical grades would not be true Asscher cuts anyway. For this reason, I have never produced an Asscher cut chart.

Look to the emerald cut chart for what I think should happen in a step cut diamond. It is as good a guide as there is, but let your own taste and eyes do the real deterination of what YOU like.
