I need help....and yes I know 15 years is a long time to date, but I assure you it was a mutual decision to not get married. Its also a decision that I''m about to toss out the window. I know now that I don''t even want the remote chance that she would not be in my life anymore.

To the point, I really need help in picking out a ring. I''ve consulted her friends, I''ve researched (its how I found this site), I''ve asked my friends who have gotten married (clueless), and I even remember some of those conversations we had many years ago about rings and such. Here is what I''ve come away with...

Her Wants:
1.5 to 2cts
Platinum

She was focused on name brands like Cartier and Tiffany''s but I think that one of her friends in particular made her realize that she could get bigger if she didn''t go name brand. She also has never mentioned anything about color, cut, or clarity;

Her wanted Dream Ring with a name brand?

Her wanted Wedding Band with a name brand (I''ll probably get her one of these from Tiffany''s)
http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/item.aspx?sku=GRP00379&cid=288152&selectedsku=11452558&mcat=148204

What I''ve focused on:
1.5 to 2.5cts
D-F
IF-VS2

Budget?
No more than $30k total to include ring/setting

So what I''ve found that at least I think is good

I obviously need help. I need to know about the diamond; how to get a ring to put it in that at least resembles her "dream"; how to insure it; whether its really a bad idea to buy diamond online and then have local trusted jewler (two friends have both used them) to make and set the ring; and just generally how the whole process goes.

I''m no expert especially with princess cut stones BUT I can vouch for Whiteflash. They custom made my e-ring for me since I wanted to get the stone and setting in one place. I can also tell you that buying from other than Tiffany and Cartier will def. give you more bang for your buck.

GL and I''m sure the pros will chime in real soon on the stones you posted.

Good luck!

Welcome xman!

The first WF diamond is the pick of the bunch here, thats the one I would pick.

Really if you can find the type of setting your GF wants or have it custom made, it is preferable to have the diamond set by the vendor who sells it, this way should something happen to the stone while setting, they will usually assume liability. The solitaire type setting from Tiffany shouldn't be too difficult to find, many vendors have a version of this setting as a stock offering.

Thank you for the quick responses...the first WF one was the one I was leaning towards as well. It caught my eye when I began looking around.
