Advice on where to buy halo setting on a budget

Hi everyone,

I've learned so much on these boards just through lurking over the past months and I'm really hoping you might be able to offer some advice on the last piece of the engagement ring puzzle.

We have decided on an oval diamond, ideally around 1 carat - our hope was to ask Good Old Gold to source it as they seem to really have an eye for them. The fact they provide a lot of additional info AND videos has pretty much swung it for us - we do not live in the U.S. so we really need an online vendor who can be our eyes "on the ground" as it were.

I would like a setting like this Ritani Bella Vita: http://www.ritani.com/engagement-rings/three-stone-halo-diamond-band-engagement-ring-in-18kt-white-gold/4612

Basically a halo around the main stone, small sidestones. I'd also like it to be super delicate, possibly also a slightly "blooming" or hidden halo, possibly also with a 20-degree tilt. What's I'm going for is a subtle halo shimmer around the main stone.

In an ideal world I'd ask VC - seen so many examples of his amazing work.

Unfortunately I doubt our budget would stretch to that - we're aiming for $8000 total, including both stone and setting. Im leaning towards a white gold or possibly rose gold setting. Unlikely to be platinum I think.

What do you think of asking GOG to do the setting for me? Has anyone had a setting made from their bench? They would make the most practical sense, but I'm nervous as I haven't seen any examples of their work and I've seen some halos that have not been to my taste from other (B&M) jewelers in the UK. What about asking Ritani to do it? It wouldn't have the possible tilt or "blooming" option, but those might be worth sacrificing. Can anyone recommend anyone else that does great halos/precision work that we might at the same time be able to afford?

Thanks in advance, any advice would be very gratefully received!

OH OH OH OH.

BUY THIS STONE PLEASE:
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/11794/ Nicest oval I have seen a LONG time.

Put on hold now please. $5,559.00

This setting would be my first choice (they can make it for an oval): http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/grace-classic-micro-pave-halo-enagement-ring-bpid-58-18.html But it does put you a little over budget.

GOG does have a bench that can make HW style halo too. So you might be able to ask what they can do for you.

Ask for 1/2 pointers as the melee if you want delicate. Or at least diamonds under a full point.

If you can't stretch the budget that far, then do this stone instead: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/11849/ Also lovely. 4,622.00 leaves you PLENTY for a halo from ERD or GOG.

Agree with Gypsy..that first diamond was amazing!

The other option is to see if GOG can order the Ritani setting you want. They definitely sell Gabriel and Co and they have many, many halo settings at a reasonable price.

Thanks so much - I had in fact been eyeing that first oval, but I can't get the hang of how to read ASETs for ovals and wasn't sure if I was paying over the odds for a higher colour (I'm really not colour sensitive at all, beyond having quite likes slighly warmer stones (G-I) in cushions I've seen!). I have forwarded the links to the SO and fingers crossed he can have that and the D VS2 put on hold and ask for a video.

As for the setting - what I liked about the Ritani was the low profile and also the side stones. I'm pretty sure GOG sell Ritani if that's a good choice for my budget, or alternatively GOG might be able to make a similar setting themselves. It seems like these two options might be the best if no-one has any horror stories about either Ritani or the GOG bench?!

Thanks again for your input - really helps!
