Hi everyone,
I was wondering if I could get some advice on a particular diamond.
When it comes to choosing a diamnd, I’m most focused on the light performance/brilliance. Consequently, I have been mostly looking at AGS000 diamonds – particularly White flash ACA - but have had trouble finding one that meets the other 3 C’s that I’m looking for.
I came across this diamond that is a AGS002 (symmetry is “very good”).
From what I have read, this would represent a diamonds that contains one or two minor symmetry characteristics that can be found under 10x magnification.
I have read a bit on symmetry but an quite cofused as there is a lot of conflicting information on this. I have found statement such as:
“When comparing ideal symmetry and very good symmetry, there is a significant difference in the visual performance of a diamond.”
“It is easy to detect the dramatic difference in brilliance between diamonds rated as Good versus those rated as Excellent in symmetry”.
“Very Good symmetry will look just as good as ideal and may save you some money.”
The purpose of this for me is to find a diamond I am happy with and this particular diamond does not seem really much cheaper when compared to ideal cuts.
I know there has been a lot of discussion on optical vs physical symmetry on this forum in the past but the conclusion I took from these discussions that it would be very rare for a diamond with lower grade symmetry to demonstrate good hearts and arrows images.
The thing is, to my untrained eye, the images look as good as if not superior to most of the top quality (ACA, Brian Gavin Signature) diamonds that I’ve seen on the net. Isn’t H & A patterning a sign of almost perfect optical symmetry which would take preference over physical symmetry? Wouldn’t this diamond be classed as a true H & A diamond?
The only thing obvious to me is that the shafts of the arrows in the actual diamond photo are not all consistently black like most of the ACA and BG signature ones are.
HCA on this diamond is 1.5.
Can anyone comment on whether it is possible to tell whether the visual appearance of this diamond with less than perfect physical symmetry is as good as an ideal cut from the images?
