Hi there everyone

I am a bit of a newbie but have been lurking in the background for many months.

I have found a stone for my girlfriend - hopefully future fiance. I would like your thoughts on it please. It is a 0.63 carat stone which faces up as a 0.70. My girlfriend prefers larger table sizes and is very colour sensitive. Additionally, the stone is to be set in platinum.

Here is the spec:

0.63 carat RB
Colour F
Clarity SI1
Cut Grade Excellent
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Very good
Measurements - 5.63-5.65 x 3.32mm
Depth = 58.9
Table 59.5%
Crown Angle - 31.5 degrees
Pavilion Angle - 41 degrees
Girdle - Thin to Medium
Culet - Medium
Fluorescence = Very slight

It scores 1.2 on the HCA score with excellent for everything except for scintillation which is very good.

It has a total of 3 inclusions in the stone. 2 in the pavilion - pint point and needle which can be seen if I hold my eye within 2 centimetres of the stone and squint.

The second inclusion is a cloud at the very top edge of the table. This cannot be seen at all in face down view. However, if the stone is held from 1 metre away and tilted than it does become visible, but again only in certain types of light. Daylight no, bright shop lights no. Basically only when there is some form of dark backlighting available.

What are your thoughts on this one. The price is good as well.

Many thanks in advance for any responses I receive to this.

Welcome to PS.

The proportions are outside of what we normally see here and could be tighter, however if your GF knows what she wants and says she prefers larger tables, then this diamond might be fine. If your eyes tell you it is an attractive stone and you love it, you are in a better position than us to judge it, so you might have found your diamond. Just curious, have you reversed the depth and table measurements?

No the table is definitely 59.5. The depth was calculated from the measurements using information in the forums. The measurements are 5.63-5.65 x 3.32.

So if I calculated it right:

5.63 + 5.65 = 11.28 divided by 2 = 5.64

then,

3.32 divided by 5.64 x 100 = 58.86 rounded up to 58.9

Maybe I made a mistake with this.

Thanks for your comments. The proportions are more unusual, but that is what she prefers. She says it gives more of a "wink" to the stone.

Ok. Well it sounds like your GF knows exactly what she wants and loves and with luck you have found it! Pics would be great if you get it please?

I don''t know. The stone looks very beautiful but I know that proportionally it is far from what you guys in these forums call ideal. But from what I''ve read, isn''t that sort of the point. i.e. that you don''t have to always go with an ideal cut, you can still get good performers which don''t meet the "ideal" criteria.

I was hoping to find out whether or not I should just scrap this one and continue my search. It is a performer in terms of how it shines and sparkles far better than anything I have ever seen in a store and better than some other more traditionally proportioned stones. Just looking at it, even me - a novice (trained a little by my girlfriend) can tell that it is cut nicely.

The cost with the platinum tiffany setting would be less than $3000 which is about my budget limit. I just can''t afford to get anything "ideal" with this budget.

Any more thoughts. I just need to be certain.

Thanks again

You make your own good points, here.

You wouldn''t buy a stone solely based on numbers/specs; so...don''t ditch one based solely on the numbers/specs, either.

If you gf likes larger tables, then this might be the right stone for her! It''s a bit more shallow with a larger table than I would personally like, but if she likes bright and large spread diamonds this one is perfect! It definitely faces up pretty big!!!
