Hi folks,

I just got my stone set today at Eli's jewelry. I am worried about the prong on the right in this photo.

Would you get this repaired or leave it alone?

Thanks!

The solitaire is beautiful. But I would SEND IT BACK and tell them to fix those prongs (and they should pay all the shipping both ways) that is NOT acceptable.

Thanks Gypsy!

My husband doesn't agree and he thinks that I am being too picky. I am torn between wasting 4 hours of my time driving in LA traffic to go to Eli's, or cut my losses and pay a local jeweler : \

The prongs are crooked, don't fully touch the diamond, and appear unfinished. I say no. If they can't fix it get a refund and go somewhere else that will take the time to do it properly.

It's not being picky - the diamond has not been set properly - it does not rest securely in the prong seats - this puts your diamond at risk - this is an issue way beyond aesthetics.

What's Eli's? Are they a PS vendor? I'm just curious. Good luck and I think you should take the time to get it fix properly. Your ring is lovely!

It needs to be reset. The problem is twofold. First, it's going to snag the heck out of your clothes. Presumably this is an engagement ring and you're likely to wear it quite a bit and this is going to be a problem forever. Second, the girdle of the stone is not resting on the 'seat' of the prongs. You're increasing the risk of breakage or loss as you wear the piece. You can't see the culet in this picture but the usual reason for this is that it's touching the joint where the prongs are connected at the base. *IF* this is the case, that's another problem (and a serious one).

By the way, it looks crooked too.

Call up the jeweler and talk to them about it. You may be able to simply ship it to them and avoid some driving. Hiring someone closer may be a reasonable option but, bear in mind, that there are some warranty implications with that. If you've got any sort of warranty that matters to you, that will void it.

Thanks so much Denverappraiser, Hathalove, Marymm, & AsscherHalo_Lover!

I was worried that I am being unreasonable, so I am glad that you guys agree the prongs look wrong.
I will give them a call next week and see what they say.

I found Eli's through yelp, they had a lot of good reviews. They're located in downtown LA in the diamond district (a very dangerous place for someone like me.)

Have a great Sunday guys! :wavey:

That would absolutely be unacceptable and should be rectified at their expense, immediately. And everyone has addressed that perfectly well above me.
