Hi everyone,

I''ve been working with a reputable ring maker on creating an engagement ring for my beautiful girlfriend. He''s come upon the following diamond (it has a GIA certificate):

Pear Modified Brilliant
10.25 x 6.55 x 4.48 mm
2.13 ct.
Natural
Fancy Yellow
Even Distribution

It doesn''t list the clarity (although he says it looks to be VS1). The price is $11,500.

As I''m pretty uneducated on this subject, any advice or thoughts about the specs and/or price would be greatly appreciated. Is there anything else I should be asking about?

Thanks very much in advance for all your help!

Why wouldn't the GIA cert have a clarity grade. A FY pear sounds fantastic.

I am not a pro, but $11,500 for a 2+ ct sounds very very cheap. Have you seen the GIA report? Are you sure it is Natural?

I know nowt about fancy coloured diamonds, but I agree with YS, this sounds very cheap...Ditto are you sure this diamond hasn't been treated?

A) Most fancy colored Diamond manufacturers would ask for a full GIA report on a VS+ clarity Fancy colored Diamond.
B) Fancy Colors are ONLY judged by the eyes and mostly faced up!!! (imposible to give advice stone unseen!!!)
C) Ask for an image (face-up) and what type of Fluo. (if any) the Diamond possesses!

The specs from the report indicate that it''s a natural stone, with natural color.

It does seem on the inexpensive side for a 2 carat fancy yellow. Maybe it''s just a great deal, or maybe it has a negative. The modifying hue of the base color often has a great deal to do with the price. Ask if it has a modifying hue, and what it is (orange? green? brown?).

Sounds like it''s definitely worth taking a look at.
