I have been reading your post and looking at your gorgeous jewelry for quite a while now. Recently engaged and have decided on an OEC diamond.
The jeweler sent pics today.
It is 1.56ct center stone H/SI1
I wish he would have taken better pics but you will get the idea.
I am having a new setting made, most probably.
I would like the center stone raised a little and the band in the photos is an example. I would prefer a more delicate band and am having two made when I want to wear one on either side.
The diamond is around 7.1K.
The setting was 9K.
Fair price, what do you guys think?
Thank you so much for a response.

Very pretty but seems a little high. Have you checked out any other options?

last one!
THANK YOU FOR ANY INPUT.

Yes, but none compared to the color, more on the J-K range. And from what I have found it is a good price???
But you guys no more than I.
I am looking at comparables this week in Texas, this is from a vintage jeweler in New Orleans.
Thank you for your answer.

thank you! i am in love but want to make a good decision.
i love it.

Have you already bought the ring or are you considering buying it?

The setting price seems really high - but you''re not interested in the setting, stone only?

have not purchased yet, would like to put deposit and begin. but from the responses I am receiving???

I like the setting but i believe my fiance would like a newer setting made since the diamond will be removed for appraisal anyways and i would be able to create my own (which would be very similar).
If i were to keep the setting i would just add a small amount of detail to the sides.

Thank you for your responses!

The stone price seems fine, in line with the price of antique stone dealers, but the setting is incredibly expensive!

I think people are saying that the combined price of $16K is too high for what you are getting. The diamond may be worth around 9-10K or less, but the setting should definitely be a lot less than 9K. Is it platinum? I would think (and I''m no expert), that the setting on the ring should be no more than around $2500 in platinum, if that. The diamond looks beautiful, and certainly if you love it and are comfortable with the price, then you should buy it. I would highly recommend having it appraised by an independent appraiser first, someone not associated at all with the store or vendor of this ring. Then you''d know for sure what you should be paying. Good luck!

I hope I was not confusing. The stone in the original setting is approx. 9K and the diamond alone is 7.1K. Is that still an expensive setting (2K?)

Oh! No, 2K for the setting is fine.

Yes you are correct. The setting is platinum and total price is around 9K. With this in consideration what do you think?
Thank You!

Oh! Well, that sounds perfectly reasonable then. You still want to get it appraised to make sure about the integrity of the stone (inclusions, thin girdle, etc.), so that you know as much as possible.

Was the setting custom made or stock? Is it white gold, plad, or platinum?

Yes we are getting it independently appraised. The setting is platinum and an original setting. I like it delicate and simple as is, the band (in pic)is just for me to see and get ideas. I am actually getting two smaller bands made for each side and raising the diamond slightly in the setting. Maybe adding some milligrain(sp?)/etching small diamonds on the sides. Not sure.
But I have OEC on the brain!

I personally think $9K is a good price for a stone of that size with such a detailed platinum setting. If you''ve seen it in person and like it (and get the appraisal like you said) then there''s no reason not to go for it in my opinion.

I am no expert but I think it is just beautiful! I like the current setting and also think the idea of a plat setting with some milligrain sounds very pretty.

Thank you so much! I have had to struggle for my OEC diamond! Just because my boyfriend wants a new diamond, new setting, etc. I feel redeemed in my judgment! I wish I could show hand shots, when it is on my finger it looks like it is just floating, because the band is so delicate. With the two bands I will have made for the wedding bands,I feel they will accentuate the stone and look gorgeous wearing them alone. Thank you for your advice, I have been reading this site for a bit and really am impressed with all of your knowledge and gems!!!

Given the choice between comparable modern RB and sparkly oec, I''d be oec HANDS DOWN!!!

And I was under the impression that the setting alone was 9k. The real thing about antique stones is putting them on your own hand and see how they speak to you. The way you describe this ring, IT SOUNDS PERFECT!!!!!

Did you notice the milligrain work on the band. Would that look nice on the two small diamonds on either side of the ering? I do not want to overdoo the setting. but i know i want that type of work on my band and would like them to match nicely.
here is the pic, already posted but to make things easier. since i am having the setting remade (most probably) i need to select the type of band. I will post two pics as examples. Any advice would be great. Thanks again!

one band i like.

with out the sapphires.

Whew! I was under the impression that the jeweler was asking 16k, too. 9k for that ring sounds like a pretty good price - tell ya what, if it were me, I''d definitely snap it up! I think the setting and stone look beautiful together.

Love the both bands you posted, too!

this is my ring with the band he (jeweler) showed as an example. i like the work on this one just not all the stones.

I love it, and personally I would not raise the setting of the diamond. Imho the low profile is very attractive, and its more practical.
And if its an original, its nice to leave them intact, yanno?

As to the price, with your correction it seems fair. The stone also looks lovely.
