Sorry if this is long--I am trying to avoid a wall of words...
I found a great stone that I love. While I was working with that online vendor, I was also discussing a relatively basic custom setting because I did not like any of their stock solitaire settings. During these discussions the sales person was helpful and seemed to tell me all of the right things, such as I could get any ring made in Palladium and they can fabricate what I want as close as possible without infringing on copyrights. I sent pictures and placed the stone I wanted on hold until she got back to me with a quote for the setting.
Well, the picture of the setting they could do wasn''t close to what I wanted and they can''t do it in Palladium. I can understand not infringing on copyrights, but it isn''t exactly what I want and I couldn''t return it if I didn''t like it because it is a custom setting. I was very comfortable working with them but the setting is important to me, so I now I can''t decide what to do. I also feel a bit misled, but I think my naivete had more to do with that than anything.
The stone I found was not one of their in-house stones, and I saw it on another webiste. That site has something very, very close to the setting I want, in Palladium. The diamond itself is a little more expensive, but it is definitely the same stone. This vendor will not sell the setting by itself, so that isn''t an option. Also, from what I read on PS this vendor doesn''t seem to have as good of a reputation as the first vendor so that makes me nervous.
I do want to be able to wear the ring ASAP as we have engagement pics coming up in about two weeks. Should I buy the diamond from the first vendor in one of their inexpensive stock settings and get it reset down the road with something I absolutely love or tell the first vendor to take the stone off of hold and buy from the vendor with the setting I really like with just an OK repuation? The return and upgrade policies are basically the same at with both vendors.
Any insights or opinions are appreciated. Thanks!
