Wondering if this has been done before:

is it possible to have a longer pendant chain length, say 18", and have two links that are specifically for the lobster clasp to connect to, so that you can choose whether to wear the pendant shorter or at full length?

Any disadvantages with this concept? e.g. extra weight behind the neck may tug the pendant to the side? or does it help with stabilising it?

I know they have adjustable chains but I have never had one. Something I did was take some of my old chains to a jeweler and had him make me a 2" chain and a 4" chain; they really came in handy.

Actually I just learned that extenders are available, thanks for the help

We have some great little chains that come to us via a wholesaler, but i believe they are Italian.
Thye have a built in slider with a rubber or similar slider bearing - they work very well.

I am sure you will be able to find them if you ask around.

I have the two links and two lobster claws on my homegrown DBTY. It adjusts from 18-20 inches and works well.

hmm..

I have a diamond pendant that Whiteflash made for me. It is about 18-19". They added another "ring" in the chain, so that I can shorten the pendant depending on what length I want.

Yes, it has been done before, and I have a couple of chains where a link has been added so I can wear it at the shorter length.

But, in practice, I find I like having a chain for every pendant, and for some pieces I prefer to have two chains of different lengths. All depends on what I am wearing that day. Whenever a jeweler is having a sale I go in and ask about chains. I''ve picked up a number of them at going out of business sales, 50% off sales, etc. My latest score was a couple of months ago - a 14k white gold 18" cable chain from an upscale jeweler for $45. That was a no-brainer purchase, because I can always use a basic 18" chain. My regular jeweler told me they would charge more than that just for the lobster clasp!

You can do internet searchs as well. Sometimes you can find what you are looking for at great prices. Just watch the weight and chain dimensions, and check the return policy.
