Well, the ski trip to visit my brother in Vail (my Christmas present from BF) will be postponed to say the least. BF tore his achilles tendon playing basketball at lunch today - he heard it Pop. So he hobbled back to work, took some pain reliever and is now calling his doctor. Not sure how bad it is yet - whether it will need surgery. Anyone have any suggestions for what to do/not to do? Healing tips?

I know my brother had some sort of a tendon injury, but not sure if it was the achilles. He had to wear a cast for a while.

Good luck to him!

Sounds like a ruptured tendon.......He should go in as soon as possible. They will probably have to do an MRI to confirm. I would say that at this point, he needs to stay off it until he''s seen. If its bad enough, he may need surgery to repair it. If its not too bad, it may reattach on its own, but he''ll likely need a walking boot. From my understanding, surgery is often preferred for those who are super active, as the healing can tend to be more complete. good luck to him!

Ditto joflier, although don''t give up hope yet - they thought I had done this back in October - I was sprinting and I heard it pop too. Thankfully, I didn''t rupture the tendon itself but some small muscles nearby. I was still on crutches for about 3.5 weeks and in a boot for about 6 weeks, but it healed much better than an Achilles tear would have.

Definitely get it checked out ASAP and don''t put weight on it in the meantime - he could make it MUCH worse, so get a pair of crutches as soon as you possibly can. Dust!!

Well the orthopedic doctor said it''s a full rupture. Surgery is on Friday at 10am CST.
Please send PS dust for a successful surgery - even though it''s a pretty simple operation. Part of the dust is for me you see, after they reattach the tendon he will be home bound for a week before they put the cast on. You know how those men can get pretty grumpy for having a cold... He''ll wear the cast for six weeks and then a boot for six more. This is interrupting the start of golf season. I''ll need the PS dust for patience and a cheery disposition

Thank you all!

Starset - so sorry to hear its a full rupture, that's no fun at all!! Tons of dust headed your way for the surgery and recovery - for both of you!

I''m sorry to hear. Sending tons of PS dust for the surgery and recovery!

OH NO! *****DUST******
That sounds extremely painful... my best wishes to a speedy recovery~

What a bummer! hopefully all goes better than expected!

Surgery rescheduled for 3pm CST instead of 10am. He''s mad because he has to go that much longer without food and drink.
Thank you for your well wishes
