Thanks, all!! Have a great x-mas!!

a jeweler told me thats how you base what a diamond is worth by the rapaport chart. He said thats how you can tell what a diamond goes for on the market.

wow!! I had no idea. When I went to see him he said " believe me I'm giving you a good deal just look at the rapaport" He told me he was selling the diamond to me for way less then what he would a wholesaler. Then I asked him why he would sell it to me at all for that price. His response was "so you can get the word around that we have good prices here"

The database here has advertisements for thousands of diamonds including more than a dozen that seem petty similar to yours. Whether or not he's giving you a good price depends on the grading details of the stone and that's one of the big zingers in this business. You don't have enough information to give a straight answer to that but there are more than a dozen EGL stones with similar specs listed for sale between $6500 and $9000. Do some research into the choice of lab and why a dealer would choose one over another. The stats you gave aren't nearly as carved in stone as you think and tiny details make a HUGE difference.

You can use the diamond search at the top of the page to look up similar stones. Use the "Advanced" search and uncheck
AGS and GIA...do a search on all (not just in house).

I saw stones anywhere from $6.2k to $10k...so it really depends how good or bad the cut is and how bad the SI3
inclusions are.

wow thanks for the tips this is all very good, I will check out other diamonds to compare.

Thanks so much excellent information!! helped me greatly.
