First let me say thank you to everyone for all of your help here at PS. I think that after quite a bit research and forum searching, I am actually ready to pull the trigger and purchase the right ring. That being said, and being the constant worrier, I wanted to get one last opinion from all of my helpful friends on here...

1. Setting: http://www.gottlieb-sons.com/fine-jewelry-show.php?id=27439

2. Stone: (I have visually inspected - gorgeous)
1.20 GIA Radiant Cut (Rectangular)
E
SI1 - Eye Clean
VG/VG
Slight Fluoro
$6800

Now for the questions:

1. Is this a respectable price? I'm getting the whole thing at B&M as they are offering great post purchase service with free re-dips, and covers all small stones from the setting. I just couldn't take the plunge into Online Diamonds.

2. The stone does not have a GIA inscription. Is this a deal-breaker? The jeweler offered to have it laser etched but said it would take another 10 days or so. I'm not sure if this will be added cost to me or if they would be picking it up. I've read that for stones over 1.0 carat it is plus/minus for laser etching. I have seen the inclusions and know where they are. What are your recommendations?

Thanks again for your help. I'll be sure to get pics up on Show Me Your Bling once it all comes together.

I think it would be hard for us to give an opinion about the stone without pictures, but I think the price sounds okay including the setting. You almost always pay a little more at a local jeweler, but you knew that anyway. I don't think most stones have a laser inscription, so I don't really see any purpose in doing that. Good luck and please come back with pictures of your ring when it is finished!

Thanks... any other thoughts?

Personally, I feel having the inscription is extra security (for me, at least). It's not necessary, but it's nice to have. The wholesaler I dealt with showed me the weight, width, length, depth of the stone and then made me verbally read out the number on the girdle. So I knew it matched that way. If your jeweler offers the inscription for free, I'd do it. Wouldn't hurt! :wavey:

As far as the price goes, if you've done your due diligence, and you think you're getting a great price then go with your gut! Good luck!

I have very little knowledge about radiants, and like DS said, without pictures I'm completely worthless. :wink2:

However, the price seems fair from a B&M, and you've used your own eyes to assess it to be a winner. I would certainly think they'd pass on the cost of the inscription, and only you can decide if that's a priority. I personally wouldn't bother, but that's just me. None of my stones are inscribed, but they're all memorized on sight alone! :))

Good luck with your purchase - I hope you're excited about it because it's a wonderful step to be taking.
