A slew of questions from a newbie (princess cut)

Hey all. So Im new to the site and to the world of diamonds. I recently began my search for the perfect ring for my girlfriend of 4 years. I visited a jeweler not too long ago and have been lurking on this site for a few days now so I have the basics down however I still have a number of questions. Be gentle on me

1. I see that light performance seems to make a big difference, and that GIA doesnt fully pick up on this. I mentioned an AGS cert to my local jeweler and he said GIA was better. I told him I was wanting to see the AGS numbers IN ADDITION to the GIA specs. Is this the correct way to say it? If he can't offer the AGS rating, should I just go elsewhere?

2. Can one safely assume that if I met all my specs from the GIA side that if I got a stone that was, say, AGS1 or AGS0, that I could feel good that the cut was on par with where it should be?

3. In my search of online rocks I dont see the AGS information readily available, are there sites similar to PS search or Blueniles search but that also allows to include the AGS rating?

STONE
4. Right now I'm looking to get something in the 1.38 - 1.45 caret range, G or H, VS2 or SI1, with a great cut, preferably scores well ont he AGS scale. With that said, if I had to wiggle some on any of these but the ct, which should I consider moving around (ie go 1 color higher, or maybe change clarity)?

5. On the AGS scale, is it better to look at the individual scores or just the overall AGS rating? I believe I read something on there where someone said AGS0 for everything but AGS1 for the polish was preferred, or something like those lines. Unsure how detailed I should get.

SETTING
Was looking to do something like this: (Tiffany Grace)
http://international.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?mcat=148203&groupSKU=GRP10062&origin=engagement&search_params=param+1002/0/0/0/0

Since I'm doing a princess cut setting, I'm unsure if any recommendations for the setting. Specifically:
6. Is pave a good way to go for the side stones? (vs 4 prong)
7. Is it weird to have round stones on the side but princess on top (different shapes)?
8. Is there a way to determine a 'good' side side stone vs the thickness of the band? (my GF has a 3.75 size finger)
9. Thoughts on the chanel sidings?
10. Thoughts on a cathedral setting? Does this offer more support? More or less common?
11. What is the best/common way to have matching side stones to the main stone, as well as the wedding band (looking to have the wedding band match the main band less the main stone of course). Not expecting all to be super high quality but dont want it to look obviously different in appearance
12. I was told white gold is more durable than platinum, regardless of the major cost differences. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks all. I know I have a lot of questions but any help is greatly appreciated!!
