After looking extensively for a generic radiant with a very good to ideal cut, I have almost come to the conclusion that they are almost impossible to find. I am looking for a 1.75-2 ct F VS2 with ideal or near ideal proportions. I have visited the SF Jewelry mart, called 3 private jewelers and searched the internet until I am nearly blind. Finally, I decided to call jewelers who handled the "Original Radiant Cut". I think I have found the diamond and have made arrangements to see it. Here are the numbers:

1.90 G VS1
7.9 X 6.6
$14,000

Is this a reasonable price assuming the table depth and crown meet the criteria for AGA Class 1A?

Secondly, if this stone is set in a brushed platinum setting, will the slight color show? In other words, can I get away with a G rather than an F and still have the stone look colorless?

By the way, this whole hunt has been very frustrating and has done the industry no favors in my eyes. Had I not educated myself through this and other internet forums, I would not have known that every stone I have been shown and told was an "extremely good" cut was actually modiocre to crap.

Thanks for your opinions.

The price sounds inline with RCDC original radiants I was shown at 2 local (detroit area) jewelers. I too had a very frustrating time looking at radiants, I wanted one to be square and cut per the AGA charts. Everything I saw, including "originals" did not fit these numbers except one that was too rectangular. I didn't go by the numbers alone, I looked at each stone but only that example looked great thru my IdealScope. That good one had a relatively generous crown and I think if the others would have had that I would have gone with a Radiant.

G? I found that I can accept a little color, you might be more sensitive. Have them rest it in a setting and see it under more light conditions to be sure.

Which lights will best show the color difference, natural light or the "store" lighting.

G... "no excuse" white ends somewehere between I and J for most people expecting diamonds to be 'colorless'. Not that there would not be diverginf opinions - so both K and D diamonds are sold and bought happily each day

I would not worry about color before having seen some of these types lined up for good measure... which I do not know wether you have or not.

If a very, very, brilliant square diamond is your goal... how about the Jubilee or Queen of Harts? If you are already considering a branded cut, these could be reasonable options in terms of both value and brilliance.

No, I am not selling either, but at lest on successful finder of a fine barnded Rad. seems to seriously appreciate the new versions

I called the jeweler that is going to show me the 1.90 branded radiant. I asked him if he could get me any of the other branded cuts (was asking about the criss cut, the flanders, and the regent, and the spring cut). While I have not seen any of these cuts in person, I kind of wanted to see them next to the radiant. He stated he was not a dealer for these cuts and was unable to get them. Other than this interaction, I have been extremely pleased with my interactions with this vender. He has been prompt, patient, imformative and extremely responsive.
