Hey ladies!
I'm running into an issues with my posture...it's horrible. I mean, my SO says that it's the worst he's ever seen and it's causing me to have back issues, and my larger breasts do not help the issue at all. I've seen some great posture bras when I search for them, but it's all information and why they are good for you, and not where I can buy them. I have no issues with price (but I would like them to be affordable) and would really like some help on where to look. Does anyone have any experience with these product or at least have any idea on where to get them?

I've been doing some reading and I'm surprised to find that there's been research linking breast cancer to improper bra's. I'm not sure how much truth there is in that, but I'd really like to get some serious support bras, no matter how ugly they look.

Thanks in advance guys! And DancingFire, I'm sure you'll chime in too, lol. So if you know where to get one please feel free to point me in the right direction :D

Red Rose - I don't have any information about these particular bras but wanted to offer some advice as I had really bad posture and have been working to correct it.

First go get fitted by a professional for a bra. It is REALLY important, esp for women with larger breasts. If you have the proper support you aren't as apt to be pulled forward by the weight.

Second I wanted to recommend that you try doing some yoga. It has REALLY helped me with my posture. Yoga stresses positions with straight back, long spine, positioning your shoulders, etc. Sitting positions come to mind, but also many standing positions. You can find a free weekly 1 hour yoga session on yogatoday.com or subscribe with them for unlimited access to their classes. I've had better results from them than from most of my local classes (although local classes are good for having someone spot you and correct where you need it so I recommend doing them at least once or twice a month).

Third - IF you want to invest a bit of money and time, horse back riding lessons! Posture is VERY important to a rider, and this has also helped me tremendously.

Good luck!

+1 for proper fitment. Also on posture, lift your ribcage, drop your shoulders, imagine your head held up by a balloon and focus your body weight on your hips. I have larger everything, and a lot of genetic back problems, and this has really helped me.

Fantasie 4550 bras might be a good investment IMHO.

Dragonfly:
I LOVE to ride, however we live in the city, so finding a horse close is next to impossible. And every place I know that has horses to ride is far to expensive :( I sometimes wish I lived in Texas, I had a ton of friends who loved to ride!

Yoga is a great idea! We are going to the gym and strengthening my back. I'll look into classes and everything around here, it's a heavily diverse populated area, so they should have a pretty good selection of serious classes.

Reader: I'm going to check out that bar type right now! I know getting fitted is the best way to go, and I've spent a fortune at Victorians secret but according to my reading under wire bras aren't good for you and that's all I bought from there. I thought I was fitted properly, but they are all HS students working there and I'm assuming their guess is as good as mine. Any idea where I can go in Toronto to get a good fit?

Not in Toronto, but do ask around. Another Pussycat in Pittsburgh is where I go, perhaps email them, they may know a shop in Toronto?

Not to sound alarmist, but aside from the bra, I would also talk to your doctor about your posture as you may require a bit of physical therapy. I have a condition that is called "winged scapula" and actually hurts to pull my shoulders back. Over the years, it has caused my pectoral muscles to tighten and I have to do stretches that will lengthen these muscles in order to help my posture.

+1 for trying yoga, but make sure you do not have an underlying physiological problem before you begin. I made that mistake and am now paying for it but am looking forward to going back!

I wouldn't doubt that I have some sort of issues like that with my back. I've had issues since I was at least 17 (prior to that my adopted parents thought I was "making it up" to get attention). The chiropractor thought it was crazy, my spine was all messed up because of it. My SO wants me to go to a Sports therapist and get evaluated when we get to the states again, and I'm planning on doing it. It sucks because I'm so young and if I have these issues now, I can only imagine what's it's going to be like when I've lived twice as long with the issues then I have now.

Reader: I'm going to email them, I hope they can help me! Keep the advice coming ladies, it means a lot!

I am all of 30 years old, so I understand you when you say you feel like you are feeling too young to be having major back issues. The trick is to take care of it NOW while you are young and to pay attention to what your body is telling you. Perhaps the posture bra will alleviate some of the stress you put on your upper back (and lower back), but I would listen to the advice of your husband and see that physical therapist!

DF: I'm not sure "chest shots" are relevant, more like back shots! LOL!

sphenequeen: The next time we plan a trip to the states I plan on seeing someone. Because my body is telling me something is wrong (no one at my age should have pain shooting though muscles in their shoulders and upper back) and it hurts so bad it hurts to breath sometimes. I'm not a sissy either, I was a tom boy for a lot of years and I have a high pain tolerance, but the pain is so bad sometimes! My SIL is a massage therapist and she rubs my back muscles sometimes and it helps for a little while to loosen me up some, but it goes right back. :blackeye:

Do you have any specific yoga programs that you do that help you that you can recommend in addition to dragonflys? Thank you so much for the help!

RedRose-I would try going to the doctor/physical therapy/some exercises/strengthening? As far as bras go, a properly fitted bra is KEY. You can find a store on the myintimacy.com network that specializes in bra fitting near your area. I pay around $90 for bras but to me it is worth every penny and I could never go back to what I had before.

Also, I use the Lunaire CoolMax sports bra, it is relatively inexpensive ($32) and works great!

I was recently fitted for a bra and imagine my shock when I found out I was a 34DD. I bought a Natori and a Simone Perele bra. Pricey but very well constructed and oh so comfortable. But you have to try the bra on to make sure it fits well and the person who measures you should be able to explain why. If you go to get measured wear a tshirt so you can see how you well the bra fits and makes you look.

BTW, I have never heard that underwire bras are bad for you.

As for the posture, ditto yoga and Pilates is also very good. I do both.

I'll be sure to check that brand out and find a place that can fit me properly! I'm seeing how important it is and with some strength training and yoga I think I'll be okay! I'll keep you guys posted on the progress!

slg47: Thanks for that site! I'm going to check it out now and see if I can find some one that can fit me properly! :twirl:

I don't have any any recommendations for bras, but doing Pilates is good for posture.

redrose, where did you hear that underwire bras cause breast cancer? I thought that had been pretty much debunked, but I was wondering if there is any new research.

A poorly fitting or non supportive bra can sometimes cause all the symptoms you're describing.
Isn't it great to be a woman?

I'll check out that link thanks  And yes, it's great being a woman, but when I think about the alternative, well, I'll keep my ta-ta's instead!

From what (little) I read, it wasn't (just) underwire that they were referring to. It was not properly fitted bras, something about the flow of fluids from the lymph nodes (or something like that). I can't recall, I should have saved the page. It popped up when I googled buy a posture bra, it was a blog (I think) and if I found it I don't think I could repost it.

I've heard so many things about yoga, I've done Pilates , I'll have to try yoga. Our gym (not the location close to us though) offers hot yoga, which is supposed to be AMAZING for you. I've wanted to try that for a while!

Thanks again everyone! You've all been very helpful!

I used to have really bad pain centered just below the back of my neck. Most of the time I would get it if I hade been standing up or walking for a couple of hours or if I had been in a bad posture. I don't know if the pain you are describing is the same as I used to have but if it is mine was fixed by getting a proper bra. I hade been forcing myself into a 34C when I actually was a 32F, just that change to a tight band that was sturdy with the wires on the side cured my problems. Of course trying to keep the posture is necesary.
When I was entering puberty I hade really bad posture, I had always been a good head taller than everyone else and all of a sudden a developed pretty large breasts. It might sound brutal but what helped was my dad tapeing my shoulders and back so that I could not hunch over. It really helped. Of course first of all see a doctor, it could be something else.
