Darling. Are they finches? Please excuse my ignorance. I am only a dog person except that my daughter had two canaries and some "Siamese fighting fish" (I do not recall what they are actually called) when she was little. But these lived at her grandparents' house and her grandmother cared for them. (Both the canaries-they were sequential-were named "Golden", by the way.)
I did learn that birds had little personalities from our canary experience, though.

Cute little peeps with cute little peep feets. Please tell me they will be used to contain garden pests and not be used in a fricassee.
Hi Deb! They are chickens. But BABY chickens! I LOVE birds. All birds! I would love a canary. My husband would kill me. I have 5 full grown chickens and now more chicks. I house bluebirds as well....
My best friend had a chicken she got as a chick at The Maine County (or Country?) Fair one year. She called her Miss Peepers. Since my friend had many dogs (they ranged in number over the years, but were often at about ten at once) plus several cats, Miss Peepers had her own crate/cage. She only weighed about a pound or a pound and a half, but she lived to be 16. One of the Malamutes was terrified of her and wouldn't walk by her crate. (But he is a very neurotic dog.) Here is a photo of Miss Peepers and one of my friend's two Malamutes.

Hi Soxfan, those two are soooooo adorable!!
I hope you don't mind a mini threadjack, but I am looking into buying two chickens as pets for our family as well. Unfortunately though, most breeders don't get the idea at all and therefore pretty much stared at me in disbelief, when I asked my questions:
How old is the ideal age to get them? I'd obviously like them to be attached to us, but don't want to cause any harm to them (most breeders don't really "get" that...
Can you just let them out into the garden (ours is fenced at 4ft 25 and about 3/4 of an acre with about 1/2 woods and shrubs, so nice hiding places for them (sorry if my measurements read weird, I am on the metric system usually). Or do were need a smaller designated space with a higher fence?
Will they usually come back into their chicken house for food in the evening, or will this be a problem? We have a natural water basin and lots of shade as well as sandy patch and about 1/3 very sunny lawn. So I thought this might be a really nice place for the chickens overall...
thanks, k
