I was always thinking that the history of gems would be educative, inspire wider public interest in the topic and probably interesting. Many people view gems as luxury and are interested in history - a cross between the two might benefit the gem sales. Anyhow, just an idea. History gives the romance to the stones.

Today I was remembering Spag’s. Spag’s was the weirdest store in Shrewsbury, MA. I visited it. Tons of pavilions with soil, seeds, spades, some furniture, and next to them, lots and lots of diamonds. They has annual events, too. At that time I barely had the money to afford the seeds, so I said, “one day”. One day, I was living in another state, and Spag’s went out of business.

But the store was one of the pioneers in discount retailing. It was personal. Now that most of us are buying online, I fondly remember the experience. People in dirty boots (it was dirty, too) buying diamonds...

Here is the history of Spag’s.
