which would you choose within the next 3 months?

The car. I'm gonna hit 100,000 miles tomorrow on my corolla!

A ring for sure. I've never driven a car in my life.

A ring. I already have a car and a ring, but I don't need more than one car. More than one diamond ring is a better idea!

The ring.

We only have one car and it is sometimes a pain to have to share just the one but it almost always is very convenient (schedules & locations line up so we'd be going almost the same roads at about the same time anyway).

A car requires insurance and gas and maintenance which is extra $$$ each month (even assuming no payments).

The ring can visit my jeweler for frequent pampering and appreciation without any added expense

My car is over 11 years old and is starting to need more frequent repairs - so I'll take the new car, please!

(Actually - is buying a used car and using the remaining money to buy a bauble an option? :wink2: )

RIng without a doubt.

We have 2 newish cars <5yrs....

As much as I would like a 35k ring, I would choose a vehicle-not a car though. Our small sedan is not cutting it for us as a family of 4, plus it is had 150k miles on it. We are looking at getting an SUV in the future.

That is low mileage for a Toyota you can still drive it for another 100K miles. Last summer I bought a 2005 Lexus with 89K miles on the clock and it drives like a brand new car.

Well if you have a Lexus that drives like new you definitely need a $35K ring.

I'll ask Jon to cut me an Octavia.. :naughty:

house
And yes you can buy a decent repo house that needs just a bit of work for that here in a safe area on a 1/4 acre.

Ring.

Car. We are getting a new merc in August (have to wait a bit for the 2015 model). Our old cars need to retire (100k miles plus)

Ask me after August and I'll pick the ring!

The ring. Every single time. A car has a limited life span whereas a ring is forever (unless lost/stolen ofc). So the pleasure I would get from the ring far outweighs the value a car would bring. As long as we have a car already though because we need that too. But if all other things are equal (i.e. have the car we need and the jewelry I need) and you are asking which I would choose as an extra I pick the ring. :appl:

Definitely a ring. If I had a 35K ring, I'd be happy to walk, though I'd probably trip on something while I admired myself wearing it. =)

Hahaha. :D
Me too Laurie, me too. But that's not saying much cause I'm a klutz.

A car for hubby. Its his turn after i got my ring last year (and 2 dream weddings).

If it had to be for me i would the ring though. I drive a year 2000 mazda mx 5 convertible. Its an old bomb that makes a loud screeching noise when i turn it on, and it doesn't always start but dayyum that thing is fun to drive. Id rather keep it and have a new ring :)

I had to for the years I lived in Cali ... but the realization that I never had to do it again once I made it back to NY left a smile on my face for days.

... and, once I snipped the bit about having/needing a car, THIS EXACTLY.

Ring all the way, baby. I want something with the potential to appreciate, not depreciate.

My car is still going strong at 131K miles so I don't need a new car yet. I also cannot fathom wearing $35K on my finger so I would rather pocket the entire sum and invest it for something with greater return. Is this even an option?  How much will the annual insurance bill be for a $35K ring?

Car for certain, as my car is an old girl being over 12yo with 177k+ miles on the clock! I have already spec'ed my next car, just need to wait until I am more financially stable before getting it.

Don't need more bling.

DK :))

Depends where you live. My jewelry insurance (ER covered only) is about 2% of the total ring cost.

I went for the car.

When it's too hot for the convertible, I wish I'd gotten a ring. 8)

Agree. I've driven multiple corollas well over 100k miles. Would still be driving my last one had it not perished in a flood.

But as far as original question, I'd go for a ring.

I should add that 100k on a Corolla is not much! We actually bought a Corolla with 100k miles for our 16 year old two years ago when she started driving! They are such great cars!

This is so true. My very first car in the eighties was a cherry red Corolla (aka chitty chitty bang bang-OK I'm a dork haha). I adored that little baby. It saw me through my residency and twenties in lovely fashion. And easier to get parking spots in my hood because it was the *perfect* size at the time.

DH desperately needs a new car. He loves his dearly but it's seriously going to die soon. We passed a newer version of it on a used car lot the other day (they don't make it anymore) and he was like...face pressed against the window obsessed. We had discussed trading his in towards a new one for me, and him driving mine, but I feel like that's unfair. Despite the fact that we constantly drive my car bec my car always blocks him in.

Neither.

Vacation. 6 month trek in South America or SE Asai.

If I must choose, I guess ring. Though for my style, that would be pretty show-y for me. I am a sundress, jeans, t-shirt gal.

Can I pick neither?

If not, I would go for the car. I could never wear 35k on my finger!

Ring, but this IS a jewellery forum
