So I randomly found out about a gem and mineral show in the city next to me today and went last minute.
There I found lots of sweet little gems and came home with quite the cabochon collection!
I came home with: amethyst, Smokey quartz, carnelian, black star sapphire, cat eye apatite, cat eye chrysoberyl, tanzanite, chalcedony, and an unknown pink cab that im guessing is kunzite...all in addition to this mystery gemstone.
Oh and did I mention i got all of this for $20?!?!
Hence why im thinking about going back without the fiance tomorrow :P2:twisted:

ANYWAYS,
Ive never seen a gemstone like this one. It's like a grayish yellow that almost flashes slightly blue in some lighting and unlike the photos show, a constant cat eye is seen without a flashlight/flash in person.
It is very puzzling...but im sure one of you out there would know what it is!
It's actually much prettier in person because of the un-photographable blue flash.
I had a weird gut feeling that it was like a type of cat eye spectrolite or some type of Cat eye andalusite...not an educated guess just weird intuition.

Anyone have any guesses?

Ignore my hands! It's gotten much colder where I live and with constantly doing dishes and washing my hands at work I've found it almost impossible to keep up with moisturizing. I really need to go buy some shea butter or cocoa butter; something thick.

Scapolite fits the scenareo & the look of the inclusions.

Of course, I cannot know...

Happy to see any cat's eye here. There are so few!

Thanks for the reply! I thought scapolite but have never seen any as transparent as this one. Have you seen one similar?!

And yes! Cat eyes are awesome...my favorite being my 6mm cat eye alexandrites. I have two and I call them sisters!

Yes, sure enough. Scapolite may come in large, beautiful cat's eye cabs... They tend to have visible texture and dark inclusions aligned with it as thin strips accross the 'eye', but perfect clarity is possible.

I have not looked any up for years, so do not know what is available.

The most spectacular I recall were colourless / faint pink - quite unlike any other cat's eye.

I went on a hunt and definetely found some of that material you were speaking about...the very transparent slightly pink and clear cat eye scapolite. For the same size as mine they were going for 250-500$. You learn something new everyday (;

Also I found some photos that resemble mine the most, some are cat eye scapolites and most are cat eye chrysos but I definitely dont believe mine is a chryso. Just neat to compare!

Gorgeous, phenomenal stone! Such a great find! I’d love to see your new stars too if you feel like it. My first feeling was cryso and then scapolite. Can you do a specific gravity test?

I'm afraid im not knowledgable about any of the tests to determine material :/ thats one avenue I have yet to explore in gems!
Do you need a certain piece of equipment?

And here are the two black stars I found...again all of the gems that I mentioned all together cost me $20...it was pretty wild.
I also found two round cat eye chrysoberyls too...about 4mm and 3mm. They have a completely different coloring than my yellow mystery gem. They have the signature milk and honey effect and coloring of real cat eyes.

Those are super adorable! What sweet stars. :)
I believe the specific gravity test can before with a few common at home things. YouTube might have a tutorial. It may help you narrow down what the stone is.
