Hi PSers,

Three stone with oval diamond sides (3 ovals) or diamond pears?

Both are lovely but I prefer the pears. Just my personal choice and I feel the pears highlight the centre stone more because of the difference in shape! Wouldn't say no to the ovals though if it was more economical!

I prefer the pears too. I like the look of the "wings".

I also prefer the pears--probably because of the contrasting shapes. I think it looks beautiful!

Pears for me too
Who will create the ring for you? Your jeweller will determine some options and perhaps make a CAD to give you an idea

Would you bezel the pears or use v prongs?

I think bezeling is a heavier look, and I prefer prongs whenever possible. If it were me it would depend on what the side gems are. I would only bezel diamonds since other types of gemstones might need a little repolishing every now and then. Bezeling makes taking gems back out of a setting impossible without doing damage to the gem or the setting.

Re pears as side stones, they really have to be beautifully cut to make sure that they sparkle since they will be small. What about moons?

I’m setting my oval sapphire with two CBI rounds!

I do like pear side stones.

Should I pick and buy the pairs myself? .15 or .20 ?

I concur with everyone else on the pear point. I have also seen ovals with trillion cut side stones, which I have really liked. It gives a similar "winged" effect without as big of a width jump from the side of the oval to the base of the side stones. Just a thought!

I think pears vs trillions just depends on what finger coverage you need on the sides and whether the right sized stones are available as pears or trillions. I agree they have a similar look. How big is the oval you want to set?

I don’t have the exact measurements with me but it’s 2.36 carat.

In this type of setting the proportions are VERY important. I would let the jeweler pick. IF you are going with an experienced PS quality jeweler.

Yes the proportions make me nervous also I’m reading that some have been unhappy with the performance of the pear sidestones (leakage, bow tie) ...

Still looking at settings, not very wowed or inspired lately by traditional designs, but I did inquire:
Amy (DK) quoted me $2300 for setting w pears
CVB quoted me for just a three stone setting with .28tcw round sides $2400.

Sounds like you are saying that you haven't yet seen a setting that WOWs you. Is that right? You said you don't want traditional but the settings you've posted look very traditional to me.

I suggest you spend some time looking through all the images of rings you can find to narrow down the elements that you really like. HTH

You maybe want to check out the sticky for colored stone eye candy for possible inspiration. Lot a of ovals and lots of sapphire and lots of side stone combinations :)

Thats correct, I wanted to keep the ring “classic” but not feeling inspired by the traditional/classic, the ring may appear a bit petite overall. know I want diamonds in the setting. My center stone is 7.5x 6.6x5.6mm. I don’t want a princess Diana look or a Harry Winston halo I know that much. Possibly an engraved halo? diamonds embedded or bezeled? Off to find inspiration:)

Of the two, I prefer pears, however I've recently been admiring oval centers with small rb side stones like:

Hi Catmom :wavey: very pretty ring ! Since I was indecisive I bought a trinity and ACA earrings. Lol. I hope to revisit this project of setting my sapphire. I am really loving Elle’s designs. I just can’t decide if I want to commit to classic or go with a twist.

Hi molecule! Yes me too that is why I got the quote from cvb with the small rounds.

Thank you !!!
