It totally depends....rubies are so expensive so getting much larger might be an endeavor. I’m not a very experienced with rubies so I will not comment on the stones because I don’t have a clear opinion. You could always add diamonds and metal around them to make them bigger, but then you need love them enough to feel that it is worth spending the money on them.
Regarding studs, too small and they might not make enough of an impact. Depends on your stature and style.

They're more suitable as side stones in a custom ring.

Hi @mellowyellowgirl, Maybe not too small depending on how you set them...a halo would increase the visual impact significantly and would be (IMO) a really pretty contrast.
Just offering another option in case you change your mind.

I'm enquiring about another stone! Might add these if I end up buying the other one! The joys of having a sister is I can just hand off stuff to her if I find it too troublesome to deal with!

I might drop by the settings shop to see what kind of earrings mounts they have!
