Hi everyone and happy new year!

I just wanted to share some pictures of the latest addition to my collection.

1.01 ct. unheated ruby from Mogok, Burma. AGL certified. see scan below.

Color: true vivid red with medium-dark tone. Extreme fluorescence under UV artificial light and strong in natural daylight. Never blacks out, always looks red.

Cut: no windows or extinction whatsoever, very high brilliance for a ruby.

Clarity: rutile silk cloud running under the table, noticeable under magnification but not so much at arm’s distance. The color is so saturated that the cloud does not detract from the beauty. Apart from that, loupe-clean crystal.

Pictures taken today, indoor with natural daylight only (approx. 3 meters away from the window).

A very nice match to my other unheated ruby from Mong Hsu (also 1.01, unheated and AGL certified), which is slightly lighter in tone and - believe it or not - even more fluorescent. Can’t decide which one I like most!

Mozambique ruby coming soon :)

Happy Sunday! CEE8CCFA-F545-48DB-84C8-F139252F5863.jpeg 12AD4448-81AF-4076-B759-0F6BD350E04F.jpeg 64CA7C71-B8F2-49F8-B5A1-5F1CEF187974.jpeg 058F3290-2EA7-4B2F-A543-DDA9892799AA.jpeg 365BA929-A482-4E67-BB63-719519E18959.jpeg

Not sure yet, for now I just collect ;-) but I can imagine setting it in a white gold ring with a design similar to this:

@VividRed, lovely Mogok ruby ! Do you mind letting us know how much you paid for it (DM if you prefer) ? Just curious what such ideal stones go for.

I love this setting! Is it custom? Have you found a similar stock setting?

Thanks, I also like it a lot!

I think it is custom and only saw it sold at auction. I would have it custom made as well most probably.

That ruby of yours is a dream, did you end up getting it graded by AGL?

Not yet, I did have plans to visit the US early 2020 and taking a number of the gems with me but the trip didn’t eventuate unfortunately. My Dad is very unwell now and they are trying to sell their house now rather than after. And I’m the only child living nearby (sister in France, brother in Western Australia). So I’m still sitting around with a stack of loose gems BUT the pink sapphire is set and the Alexandrite is set and the blue sapphire is next.

If you ever need a ruby-sitter during holidays or such, I'm available for a very moderate fee (like $0.01 per day)....

Robert Genis from National Gemstone - very good email exchange and smooth transaction.

He still has a 2.14 carat unheated Mogok ruby of similar quality, a little lighter in tone (75%) but it’s a totally different price range

I would prefer to DM if you would let me know how to do it (I haven’t found out how to do it here lol).

It was a fairly good price considering the rare alternatives available as retail customer

No worries, I've bought from Robert before, that's why your ruby looked so familiar :) Yes, his prices are very good.
