Hello,
Can you help me decide?
First one looks stellar, but I'm used to bigger diamonds (2.5ct).
Second one has a nicer size, but I'm afraid of the M color.
Because of the black background and the ideal cut, I can't figure out the actual color.
Light yellow is OK but dark yellow, gray, brown are not.

I've seen some lovely and some ugly M diamonds.
Will the color or the cut (Black vs Cape) affect the brightness or the sparkle in a visible way?
Thank you for your insight.

This is an apples and oranges comparison. It really depends on your preference. With regards to your flavour of 'M', you can discuss that with BG.

The question really is do you want a slightly yellow large diamond, or a colourless diamond? In light yellow the brightness and sparkle should not be affected.

If you want a colourless diamond, are you tied to BG? There are compromises that can be had. If you are happy with an M, I'd assume you are happy with an H/I and a potentially a properly vetted SI1.

This has great proportions for the same price:

I'm linking whiteflash because I couldn't find much else in BG inventory.

Slightly better clarity at VS1 vs the WF

But I would choose the extra 0.3mm of the WF stone.

Very vast differences. You need to talk to Lesley or Brian about the shade of the M stone.

As far as cut quality, both will be superb. As I recall, their Cape series is basically their Signature line in lower colors. The Black series is higher color and utilizes Brian's latest and greatest cut techniques which take more time and precision to make; therefore, a Black diamond is his elite cut. The Signature/Cape series is his standard super ideal cut.

All that said, I'd expect the Black to be better.

Thank you gm89uk,
Yes I'm tied to BG (upgrade of another diamond).
I'm not open to an inclusion in the middle of the table like the WF diamond, but the proportions look great.
I don't like the heart at 3AM in the hpdiamond.

LOL, when I said "better" I was referring to cut only. Black cut is more precise than Standard/Cape cut, although IMO you are splitting hairs.

Color is very subjective. M would never work for me as I don't care for yellow tones but oddly enough helped someone find something similar with a very faint brown undertone and loved it.

Size is a massive swing difference and can understand why you'd consider M if it was the right undertone as there is considerable difference. This too tooew back to color as bigger stones show more color. For someone with color preferences like me or my fiancee that Cape probably wouldn't work; however, neither of us are size driven. In fact when I started my search I was thinking 2 carats. She said 0.5 carat. I settled at just barely under 1 carat to avoid magic weight markups.
