Does garnet fluorescence?

Hi, I bought this eternity band at an antique store in California last week. The owner told me he thought it was garnets and charged me 60.00. I thought the ring was pretty so I bought it. After looping it I could see it is platinum. Well I was having my nails done yesterday, I could see the ring lit up like my ruby does under the UV light. So here is my question. Do garnets fluorescence 20190119_100844.jpg 20190119_100821.jpg 20190118_123156.jpg

Maybe it’s your picture, but they don’t seem to show fluorescence.

The picture is bad. It did light up. I'm perfectly fine if it is garnet considering the price and the name doesn't change how pretty I think it is. I was just wondering about garnets and fluorescence.

Very few will so it’ll be very odd if all the garnets in the ring fluorescence.

Thanks, I tried to do some searching and found different answers. Every stone lit up. Here is the ring in some sunshine to give an idea of the color. It almost looks purple 20190113_112138.jpg

For $60 it is pretty regaurdless of what they are. Apparently it is possible for garnets to exhibit flourescence (you can see some pictures of it here). So it is possible they are garnets. It wasnt my first guess when I saw the band though, they just looked totally unscuffed and pinker than I would have expected. Add the flourescence and it would make me curious if there was another explanation. But irrespective it is an awesome band -- I love it, regaurdless of what they are.

2B95C3F0-BDFB-40D7-ACDA-EDBB16B59174.jpeg Red Garnets usually arent fluorescent as they are coloured with Iron (Fe) - - - which is why they are also magnetic.
But not all rubies fluorescce.
Other red gems that fluoresce include Spinel as well as synthetic ruby / Spinel.
The fluorescence is a definite glow (and some of the diamonds in my bracelet are fluorescing as well).

As far as I know, red family garnets do not fluoresce. The only garnets that fluoresce, that I know of, are mint garnets. Some, including the ones I own, have orange fluorescence, only under some UV light (not sunlight).

Grossularite with a very low iron content show orangepink LW fluorescence ( Leucogarnet, near colorless Grossularite, Merelani Mint). Some rare Tsavorites with significant chromium content show red fluorescence (Kuranze mine).

Mali garnet has to much iron so no fluorescence (Grossularite/Andradite mix). A228F175-DDCF-436C-AB2E-24A3A51DBBB7.jpeg 0DE1C855-A09F-4DD7-AC81-314EB38BD7C0.jpeg

I have to make a photo of a pair of earrings - when I find them as they were sent to the back room in disgrace. They contain huge red round garnets, three are normal and the fourth fluoresces off the charts. That fourth is synthetic, I assume. I sourced the stones out myself and it is interesting that between the jeweler and me, no one bothered to check the fluorescence because inexpensive red pyropes are usually what they are claimed to be.

Recently came across a malaya garnet that fluoresces yellow!

My gut feeling (based on the colour, style, platinum setting, and fluorescence) is that these could be rubies (either natural or synthetic).
