Can purity stamp on Platinum ring help date it?

I have a Platinum and diamond ring I hope to sell soon. I know little about the ring and would be grateful for any help anyone could provide. It has never been appraised, but for now, I am really interested to know how old it is. I have had it 40 years; it was given to me from someone who purchased it at a pawn shop. The only marking is '10% irid plat'. I am new to this type of research, but I did read somewhere that Platinum jewelry marked in that particular way are probably 1930's or older. Is that accurate or not? I tried to find a similar image of the ring on internet but didn't really see anything comparible, but I am not a very good researcher! What style would this be considered? Not an expert but I believe that stamp was used from 1890 up until the 1930's. Palladium was the stand in for platinum in the 40's due to the war. My guess would be 30's, it's a pretty ring.

Thanks for your reply. The 1890-1930 time frame is what I had read too. The diamonds have exceptional sparkle and fire. I guess I should bite the bullet and pay for an appraisal!

Sometimes appraisers will do a consult where they give you a verbal color and clarity grade on the diamonds and estimate weight, that way you're not paying for a full appraisal. The appraiser I bring my jewelry to in CT does this, might be worth asking about.

ETA: They still charge for the consult but it is less than an appraisal.
