hi i fell in love with the cartier 1895 solitaire ring with pave setting after trying it on last week! i''m now trying to get my husband to buy it for me. i''d like to get advice from everyone who owns or knows pricing for this ring. Is it cheaper to get it from paris compared to the US? I''m looking for a 1.5 ct, F color, VS2, excellent or very good cut stone. thanks.

You could call the stores and see if it''s cheaper in Europe or the US. I think Cartier is fairly good at staying on top of their prices so the difference may not be much. Keep in mind that wherever you live, if you have it shipped or wear it in from another country you are still supposed to pay import duty and tax on the ring.

If you''re not opposed to pre-owned you may want to check out http://www.signedpieces.com/home.cfm.

I will highly doubt that any ring in Paris is less expensive than some of the fine internet jewelers here in the US. Of course anything is possible but I''ve been in this 23+ years and I can assure you that remaking a design from a Tiffany or Cartier or some other outrageously priced store can be done quite beautifully for probably 1/2 the price. You just need to know where to look and ask...

Otherwise, contact the reccomended PS vendors. I''m sure some who have gone the PS custom route can chime in...

FashionAngel, I am by no means an expert, but I love the Cartier 1895 (with and without pave) and I was really bored at work, so I decided to do some setting/stone research Here are a couple stones that are around your range if you decide to go the non-Cartier route:

E/VS2 1.52

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4526/

F/VS 2 1.69

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4606/

For settings, the two best I've seen are

Whiteflash Fine Line

Leon r907

Neither of the styles I showed you are with pave - it would be something to contact Leon or WF about separately (not to mention what type of prongs you'd like, etc.) Give them a call as well as Cartier and see what the possibilities and price ranges are. I have no idea what a 1.5 FVS2 would cost in a pave setting at Cartier, so I can't predict whether the custom route would be 50% cheaper (doubtful however), but either way, I think you'll get a beautiful ring. Good luck!
