Is this a decent price for a 1.1 carat handmade designer ring? The stone is S. Muller and sons...it resembles a princess but is cut with tapered edges (to increase strength) and more facets--the stone is stunning I must say.

It''s VVS2 and is an I in color (but to me looks perfectly colorless)...real pretty stone.

It has micropave on the side of the ring (platinum).

Also, the designer, who made this ring by itself (no replicas) said he made it from a single block of platinum. He literally took a 4 mm wide block of platinum and removed from it what he didn''t need to make the ring. He said this was pretty rare as it isn''t often done due to time and money. The ring itself if heavy and very well polished.

surely someone...

First we need more information. Is that 1.1 carats TOTAL weight of all the diamonds in the setting (asuming it''s not a solitare) or the weight of the center. Second who has certified the diamond''s color/ clarity?

Second, if he''s a reputable jewelery tell him you''d like to take it to an independant appraiser. THE INDEPENDANT PART IS KEY. It has to be an appraser that does NOT have ANY link to this guy or any other jeweler. No vested interest. Then ask the guy for an estimate on the fair retail value of the ring. That''s the best way to get your answer.

The other thing I forgot to say about the ring is about the micropave on each side of the soliaire...they go down about half way down the ring.

They''re unique though, in that they are on the corners of ring just so that you can see them well from a top view as well as from the side.

That is, they''re in a semi circle around the ring and they appear as though they go underneath the soliaire.

The soliaire also is floating in the setting...wish I had a picture.

Seems VERY high to me. I have a 1.5 ct (GIA cert H, VVS1 - for comparison sake) asscher in a handmade platinum setting with sidestones that was in the same price ballpark.

What happened to this beauty you were looking at back in Sept???:

Gypsy, it''s a GIA certified diamond.

1.1 ct. solitaire

not sure how many cts of the micropave...but there are two rows of them that go half way around the ring.

maybe I''m stupid but I probably won''t get an independent appraisal...this guy is nationally known for his art, and I''m getting it mostly for the uniquness of the ring itself...which overall including the diamond is exceptional to me. I''ve been looking at a lot of diamonds and it''s the most scincillating that I''ve seen from my eyes, so that speaks a lot to me.

just sharing my excitement:)

decodelighted, have been looking for a thin band micropave soliaire.

had planned on getting the michael b with a big (2 +) princess.

when we went to this local jeweler who is highly recommended by locals, she tried on this ring and i could just tell she knew this was the one. she has no idea I''m planning on getting it. I figured I could save 10k by not going with the huge soliatire, especially since size isn''t that impt to her.

bottomline is she loves it and I loved it. i feel like i''m paying for the artestry of the ring itself more than anything.

Well there you have it then. These two statements say it all. CONGRATS! Sounds like you''ll both be happy & save $$ to boot!

I wouldn''t continue to ask people to evaluate the "value" of the deal then ... it doesn''t really matter. Does it?

You said it yourself: you''re paying for the artistry & the fact that it''s "the one" & we''ll all be happy for you & please please hurry with some PIX!
