What would make a .85 carat diamond look smaller than it''s certed weight?

Physically, usually a thicker girdle with hidden weight and a corresponding diminished diameter.

Optically, a poor cut which has a lot of light leakage in the upper girdle facet area, creating the illusion of a diminished diameter.

ummm... I'm not Richard (and I only WISH I knew an iota of what he does when it comes to diamonds!) but I think crown height might be a helpful piece of info...
