I was looking at a site for colored gems a while back and the cutter had several he'd done with only SEVEN mains and I thought they looked fantastic - they still had wonderful symmetry but not the 8 main symmetry... it looked more like chaos but at the same time, ordered chaos. I thought it would be interesting to know if this would work in a diamond... has it been done? Having only 7 mains also has the added benefit of being a bit chunkier. But I don't know what it would mean to other aspects of the cut... I have seen hex diamonds and they're pretty cool looking but what I liked about the 7 was that it lacked that rigidity... not sure how to explain it but I'm sure I've used enough words to get my point across lol

Diagem? Anyone?

Do you have link to one cut like that? It sounds interesting.

Probably the crystal plane of diamond is not conducive to a 7 main cut. Other gems are easier as all other stones can be polish with diamond dust but diamond against diamond, wrong orientation will result in a longer, if not impossible cutting time?

excellent point stone cold.... don't know why I didn't think of that. Would love to know if you are *absolutely* correct because I still fantasize lol

I'll see if I can find a pic :)

Okay, I had a hard time uploading both pics...

I know this isn't round or a diamond... but it is 7 mains and I think it's lovely :)
