Been looking for just the right engagement diamond for the past few weeks and have pretty much narrowed it down to the following 7.

Don''t have crown and pavillion angles but I''m sure I can request them.

Wondering if anybody has thoughts on which is the "better" of the 7.

Critera is the very obvious. Shooting for best quality and value.

Any feedback, input, or recommendation would be greatly appreciated before I loose my mind.

thank you,

Yong

Well, to help you, I think we need more of a range of clarity that you are after. You have diamonds listed from VS1 to SI1. That is a huge range in clarity, and is expressed in the $2,000 price difference between the stones.

For us to answer which is the best, you need to either tell us what clarity you are after, or give us more information such as pavillion angles or other Sarin information if you have them. To start off though, I''d probably not go with the D color stone. You are paying a premium for a slightly smaller stone, and almost 500 dollars more just for that color upgrade from the other F stones you are looking at. Just my opinion though.

SI1''s are looking to be approximately $12,000 while your VS1-VS2 range is about $13,000-14,000. That''s a huge difference, based on mostly clarity (size and color are all pretty close). So, let us know which clarity your after, then maybe we can help narrow some down for you !!

Best of luck,

Assuming you want them ''eye clean'' and these are available online and you have not seen them... I''d first consier the SI1s for the better price point. Sure enough, it may turn out that some SI1s are not perfectly clean and some folk found VS2 that were not clean enough for thier taste too. The way to go about this is either to pay a few thousand for some safe bet clarity grade (probably VS1 or better - never hear complaints about those) or ask the seller for detaile pictures and/or their work backed by reasonable return polucy which is more likely to happen if the shop has not already been providing pictures - taking them is not easy.

And since these are round brilliants with brighteness expected to be the main merit, than aditional information on cut quality sounds reasonable to expect. By this I mean proportions, not just polish and symmetry grades. Without enough detail to get a reasonable idea of how there look and how they comapre againt what can be expected from this cut, you could ahev 1000 not just 7 on your list and it would still be a blind guess of which is better.

Hope some of this helps

Just a thought. I think you ask too much in wanting people to assess seven diamonds for you. If you narrow it down to two or at the most three, then more people will be willing to look at the stones with a critical eye.

You will probably get much more response if you decide what you want from a stone then pick two possible candidates that seem to best exemplify what you wish, then ask.

Wink

I think Wink''s right. And with the limited info provided, it''s hard to give very detailed responses. I will say that most of those stones are a little deep for my taste. They face up just a tad bit smaller than I would like. Whether you would notice this, I don''t know. But I always like to get the most spread for the weight (within reason, of course). Personally, I prefer a depth somewhere around 60.5.

I would ask the vendor to eliminate any that are not eye clean (and I would included from the sides also, butthatis me, and depends on how you will set it.) From there, I would ask for sarin info and idealscope or aset pics, make the decision based on cut info and light return vis a vie price. There is currently not enough info on too many stones.

Frist, appreicate all the feedback. It DOES help. Thank you!

Unfortunately everybody seems to be closed today. Hopefully I''ll be able to obtain additional information on Tuesday which I''ll post if made available.

With that, I have scratched quite a few candidates from my original list of 7.

Trying to find an Ideal cut, E-F, VS1-VS2, 1.5 ct, with a price range of $11,500 - $13,000
Have pretty much scoured every online retailer, and haven''t been able to find ''just the right'' diamond for ''just the right price''.

I did however find some 1.4ct - 1.47 that do fit my "ideal" specs and price point.

Which brings me to another questions. Is there are significant difference in preceived size from a 1.4 and 1.5ct?
It seems that just about everywhere, 1.4x ct diamonds are priced signficantly lower than 1.5ct but with far better clairty/color ratings.

Besides the obvious difference of weight would there be a negative in going with a 1.4ct as far as retaining value?

It''s been an interesting learning experience to say the least. ... again, many thanks to all of you.

respectfully,

Yong

Other than the price difference soley from carat weight, if the stats are the same and you have 2 ideal cut diamonds, you will never lose value by going to a smaller size. Value wise - you may get almost the same visual eye spread with the diamond with a 1.4-1.45 carat than paying for a 1.5 carat. That could be taken as a better "value" pricewise, but as far as the actual value of the diamond, if the stats are the same, it will never matter what the size is in relation to its value.

You could have a 0.50 carat diamond, ideal cut, with superb stats, and it would have great "value". So would a 1.5 carat ideal cut with the same stats.

I think you're right to look in the 1.4 range as there is a significant price jump once you hit the 1.5 mark. It seems like given your color and clarity requirements, it might be difficult to find an ideal cut 1.5 ct in your price range. They seem to be running in the 13,000 - 16,000 range. If you'd be willing to drop the color to a G, you will likely have many more options. One pays a high premium on colorless stones. Good luck in your search!
